I can't find the post where the route application was announced, so I open this new one because the route has been approved and is now bookable.

Iberia will start on Feb 1, 2011 a new triangular flight to 2 new destinations in Brazil.

IB6031 MAD 1205 FOR 1625 257
IB6031 FOR 1745 REC 1915 257
IB6032 REC 2055 MAD 0905 257

Equipment: Airbus A340-300. "Iberia expects to carry 80,000 passengers on the route during the first year."

"New routes consolidate Brazil’s status as Iberia’s most important destination in Latin America."

Fare for the first month: 1.422 € round-trip

With this, IB continues to expand their long haul operation. This year, COR and SAL are launched as new destinations, as well as non-stop flights to PTY.

I've read that SSA is being considered and could also be launched next year. This surprises me, because I would have thought that something like MAD-BSB-CNF-MAD would happen before.

As IB cannot fly to CLO, the biggest gaps in IB's Latin American network are Bolivia and Paraguay. In the rest of the Americas, I miss a flight to the US West Coast and a flight to Canada.

Is IB allowed to carry local passengers on the FOR-REC sector? Or is that only possible in conjunction with segments from/to MAD?

No foreign carrier has cabotage rights in Brazil.
