Sorry Guys, it is in T. Chinese. But local media in Hong Kong is reporting that Cathay Pacific (CX) has reached a codeshare agreement with Canadian based airlines Westjet (WS) with effective date to be Oct20, 2010. This is for sure a GREAT NEWS and a long rumored agreement!

Isn't this a step closer for WS to join OW? Thoughts anyone?

Hong Kong is not China. Not better or worse, just different.

It is a step closer only in as much as it's more than nothing, but that's about it.

If I understood the article correctly (and it's a good bet I missed something), this is a one-way agreement. CX will code-share on several WS flights into its YYZ and YVR gateways, but WS isn't code-sharing on CX's flights.

The industry is full of code-share agreements that include an un-aligned airline with little to no interest in joining an alliance.

I've got $h*t to do

Yeap you're right. It is a oneway agreement. CX code will be added on WS flights originated from Vancouver and Toronto to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg.

WS has a similar agreement with AF/KL. As the new CEO spent a lot of time at AS,expect WS to codeshare with anyone that makes good business sense and revenue.
