Rather interesting, and funny news today. Last year there was a bit of an absurd uproar in the college town of Moscow, Idaho (where the University of Idaho is located) regarding the fact that Horizon Air had painted a Boise State University (the best looking plane on earth, I might add) and not an Idaho Vandals plane, despite the fact that Boise State was a much more recognized school (and the fact that we are perfect in just about every way and the, ahem, Idaho Vandals are surely not, but need I go on?)... did I mention that the Boise State plane was the best looking plane on earth?
So anyway, there was a pretty big uproar in Moscow "not-the-one-in-Soviet-Russia-but-they're-all-commies-anyway", Idaho. And then things got a WHOLE LOT worse during the annual Boise State-Vandals rivalry football game when Horizon did a flyby in the stadium with the Boise State plane (did I mention that we kicked their butts? )... People in Moscow were fuming that QX didn't paint a Vandals plane! The athletics director at the University of Idaho even refused to board on a QX flight from LWS-SEA because the plane flying the route that day was the BSU plane! A facebook boycott ensued... and I laughed a little on the inside when this happened... silly Vandals!
And then... this announcement today:
QX WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!
Horizon Air To Cheer Home Teams in Idaho and Montana: 3 Q400s To Be Painted in Public University Colors
Oh! And University of Montana and Montana State University are also getting Q400 liveries!
In all seriousness it's great to see more College liveries coming and I can't wait to fly on them. This also confirms that QX will be taking some Q400s soon as CRJ-700s leave the fleet... unless they decide to paint current aircraft, which I don't think they will.

Finally QX came to their senses, we might not be able to beat BSCC (Boise State Community College) in football, but we sure can in the classroom
Vandal Black and Gold will look awesome!!! Can't wait to take a ride in it!!!
Any idea what tail #'s it will be?

These are three existing aircraft which were already scheduled to be repainted. QX may take on additional Q400's at some point, but this is no indication of that. Great to see them expanding the college sky-line of sorts. Haven't seen any other airline do this. Brings a lot of excitement to them, even as the QX name brand may be retired in the year to come. Nice way to go out!

I flew on the Boise State Q400 LAX-STS-SEA in March and wondered when, due to the LAX base, we'll see my school painted on a QX plane? After all, it's a prominent Pac-10 school that is a big rival to UW, WSU, OSU, and OU...(and no, I did NOT Bruin my life)
Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!
They were thinking: what's good for the goose and all that. I am just glad they had WSU and UW out about the same time as well as UO and OSU. Imangine the uproar there! The Montana State plane looks really good!
