This afternoon, I heard on one of our local TV stations that a Midwest Express flight from Milwaukee to Unkonwn had an engine fire and declared an emergency. They were brought back to Milwaukee without incident. The plane looked like an MD-80 from what I could see. No more info on flight number or the destination. Just thought I would let you all know!

UPDATE- It was flight 5 to LGA NOT EWR. This is the second MD 80 problem for MidEx since last weekend when in Los Vegas passengers smelled an acid on board. This has nothing to do with this incident and a different aircraft. They never figured out what caused the acid smell and that aircraft is now back in service. The aircraft that had the fire today will not be back into service until the NTSB comes over and sees what happened and has a report.

Yep, I stand corrected, it was to LGA! Actually just watched ch. 12 and they had video of the aircraft losing the engine from a stationary camera on a building roof along layton avenue looking south over 19R. It showed the aircraft starting its takeoff roll and about 7-10 seconds a puff a smoke from the left engine followed by a quick flame and a part shooting from it. Try to catch it if you can.
