It seems LY have stopped freighter operations to almost all of their cargo network, only New York and Liege are showing in their web schedule, other than that TLV weekly arr/dep at the website are only showing LGG not even JFK, thats based on cargo flights using 800 flight numbers, can anyone confirm this?

They were serving London, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Addis Ababa???, Almaty, Bombay, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul.

It looks like El Al Cargo only has 4X-ELF as the predominantly active aircraft. 4X-AXL did a TLV-AMS-TLV rotation over the weekend, but other than that all LY8** flights are with 'ELF.

I presume other cargo is in the hold of pax aircraft.

It looks like they've dropped all their routes except the ones below:

LY801/2 TLV-LGG-TLV: 2x weekly
LY809/10 TLV-LGG-TLV: 1x weekly
LY871/2 TLV-LGG-TLV: 1x weekly
LY881/2 TLV-LGG-TLV: 1x weekly

LY831/2 TLV-LGG-JFK-LGG-TLV: 1x weekly
LY841/2 TLV-LGG-JFK-LGG-TLV: 1x weekly

LY875/6 TLV-HKG-TLV: 1x weekly

They also have only 2 active cargo aircrafts left, 1 74X (4X-AXL) and 1 74Y (4X-ELF)

The hebrew website of LY cargo states that they are consolidating their operations into one port in Europe, i.e. Liege in order to improve their competitiveness inthe cargo market. It seems to me that this is corporate speak for not being able to compete successfully in other markets. This would therefore mean that there is a strategic partner for the cargo that is outbound/inbound to TLV. Anyone know who that might be?

Ok for the upmteenth time regarding livery, why cant LY Cargo just sport this basic look on their aircraft?

Quoting 777way (Reply 1):

Hé hé 777way, nice work!

But even the new 744 is all white with this weird "Cargo El Al" non-logo......

LY isn't serving AMS anymore since quite a while actually. I think AXL didn't fly to AMS last weekend.

I forgot why they dont wear livery, what is the reason again, atleast they wear the title now instead of just Cargo, and how came they wore full basic livery on some of their feighters in the past while others where all white?

Ah, ok. Acarsd needs to update its route database then

4X-AXL 73808B (B742 LY) 0344 20101017 LY0882 (AMS-TLV)
4X-AXL 73808B (B742 LY) 1100 20101016 LY0882 ()

LY 882 is just a LGG-TLV flight number:

This weeks TLV arr/dep information update has been shortened from 5 days to 3, anyways its showing Budapest flight, and BUD has quite a few pics of LY cargo in database, so could it be a regular station? also Vilnius is showing up again this week could it be a new addition? as is a covert operation by LY 845/846 not showing the destitnation its flying to/from, I suspect it could be a Muslim country.

Good question..... I'm not sure. One reason is (was?) that those planes are sometimes operating non-El Al flights. At a time, they operated Cargo Air Lines flights, but now this entity has become an independant airline with its own fleet.

Another reason might be the cost. But El Al's current livery does not seem to be so costly in painting and in weight..... On the other hand, to "repaint" all-white a 747 seems to me to be more costly than to keep it in its original livery.

And another reason might be to remain less visible while flying over Tel Aviv on Saturdays (El Al Cargo, as El Al Charter (Sun d'Or) are operating on Shabbat ... But again, on the other hand, many Sun d'Or flights are now operated on Saturdays by El Al airplanes wearing the full El Al livery including titles (which was not the case in the 1990s).

I'm sure some members will explain that it is "for security reasons". But this is for sure a wrong answer!

EL Al wants to form an alliance centered around Eastern Europe and the Middle East with other airline carriers. http://bit.ly/dfepUL
