This is a busy time of year for the airlines while they return everyone to their families home. Is anyone here going to fly? If so, what airline and what type of aircraft. Also, what airports.

I will be flying later this week. Back in July, I decided to use frequent flier miles for a free United trip to Alaska on Dec. 25. Even though this is not a blackout day, they had no free seats left to Alaska, so I made arrangements to fly free to Los Angeles instead. Later, when surfing the airline websites, I found a good fare from Los Angeles to Alaska, so I booked it. That's why I am flying to Alaska via LAX. Here are my flights:
12/25 UA 1198 RIC-ORD B737-200
12/25 UA 135 ORD-LAX B757-200
12/26 AS 513 LAX-SEA MD-80
12/26 AS 97 SEA-FAI MD-80
12/27 AS 144 FAI-ANC B737-200
12/28 AS 98 ANC-SEA B737-400
12/28 AS 634 SEA-LAS MD-80
12/29 HA 3 LAS-LAX DC-10-10
12/29 UA 952 LAX-ORD DC-10 Series?
12/29 UA 1238 ORD-RIC B737-200
My stay at each city is short, but I am going mainly for the flights. I also want to see the Aurora Borealis. That is the main reason I am going to Alaska in winter.

I flew from ORD-IAD-GSO yesterday, on a 777 and J31.
I finally got on a 777. I was supposed to be on one at Thanksgiving, but I was offered a first class seat on a 737 instead. I took it.
The 777 is great in some ways, but stinks in others. It is a great plane, and both the pilots of yestrday's flight said they would not switch to any other for anything. The seats are really uncomfortable. Each one has a little TV in the back, and that really reduces the comfort arond the head/neck area. They are really stiff. Also, on the floor each seat has a little electronics box for the TV equipment, and foot room is really lacking. I'd rather be able to sretch out than watch TV any day.
Anyway, the flight was great and they even served food and gave us headphones even thought the flight was only in the air for 1 hour and 15 minutes. I spent about 20 minutes after the flight talking to the pilots, who were great.

Actually this is my 2d trip to EWR. I was there the same time last year,
but didn't have my camera to take any serious pictures. This is the first
time I'm going there with some serious spotting in mind ... Are you from
the NY/NJ area by any chance?

I love the 777 except for one reason -- I got soaked on it. Last tuesday I came back on UA 931 from lhr-sfo and upon takeoff a whole bunch of water spilled onto me!!! I suppose it was a condensation thing I have heard about before, but I got the seats without the in-seat videos and that sucked! I would rather have the hard headrest!
