Do you think that DL will ever return to HKG and SEL.

I think they should start operating services to Seoul, due to their alliance with Korean Air, but from where and it what (MD11) ?
There are many US-KOREA flights,
UA from SFO & ORD vía NRT
NW from DTW, vía NRT I think.
KE from LAX, SFO, JFK, ORD, etc.

Also the US-HKG market is very well served, UA, CX, NW, CO, but also, from where ?
LAX-HKG 3xday (UA, CX)
SFO-HKG 3xday (UA, CX, SQ)
ORD-HKG 1xday (UA)
(DL lacks of enough facilities at ORD to make this service work)
NYC-HKG 3xday (UA,CO,CX)
(DL has an extremely important hub at JFK but UA, CX and now CO dominate this market)

ATL-HKG ??? I think that there is now aircraft able to perform this route.

Of course, I love to see more US airlines serving HKG, since there are only a small number of airlines on the US-HKG route.

However, many US airlines are using NRT as their Asian hub. ATL-HKG?? Sounds like a good choice! But, are there enough demand for this route??

DL used to do ATL-HKG a few years ago. An MD-11 with PW4000's. I don't think it was too tough to do, but the route was canceled for some reason.

Um no.

DL did ATL-PDX-HKG.

They still had payload problems.

If DL gets the 777-200 LR, do you think they will restart ATL-HKG nonstop or ATL-SEL ?

I think that the 777-200LR is great for DL, with this aircraft in their fleet, they could start an Asian expansion.

US-ASIA is an extremely big market, where UA and NW take the big part along with the Asian carriers, leaving a little to AA,CO, and DL...

My proposal for DL new routes

JFK-KIX
JFK-PEK
JFK-PVG
JFK-SEL
ATL-HKG
ATL-SEL

along with DL´s
ATL-NRT, JFK-NRT, LAX-NRT, LAX-NGO.

Actually, Delta never served Hkg from PDX. They did go ATL-LAX-HKG and ATL-PDX-SEL. I think an ATL-SEL is realistic but ATL-HKG would be a long shot. Sure miss the "hub" in PDX

Kwbl - my bad!

They did ATL-LAX-HKG, ATL-PDX-SEL and PDX-TPE-BKK with the MD-11s

I believe 4 or 5 MD-11s were fitted with the aux fuel tanks that were needed to operate these transpac routes, but that took away from the available payload and made the flights rather uneconomical.

Do DL still has the rights to operate services between
LAX-HKG, PDX-SEL, PDX-TPE-BKK ?

I believe Delta does still have those rights. I also think they still have the PDX-FUK rights which they operated for about a year and PDX-OSA which was never operated.

I heard from a source that DL was looking to return to Seoul, but that was more than a year ago. I would not know what they are up to, most likely will have to wait and see what happens.

I flew on DL flights to SEL out of PDX in '99 and years prior to that. The flights were always FULL, so it would make sense for them to return.

I have doubts about ATL-ICN, though. I am not sure how many would want to fly for that long, especially in those cramped economy seats on DL. LAX-ICN sounds like a more profitable route.

If DL still holds the rights to LAX-HKG, how much longer can they hold on to it without actually resuming service? Will they eventually have to relinquish them back to the US DOT?

KAL flies from ATL to ICN. Delta will probably puts its code on the flight, and possibly add its own flight int he future.
