Do you know this to be a fact? USAir is the only airline to operate Dash-8's into LGA, but you're sure it was a DL Connection -145?

Go-around requested by LGA Tower at 14 min 14 sec into the recording. Seems to be a standard ATC-requested go-around due to separation. Missed which flight # was the conflicting Dash-8 but about 15 sec later the controller asks Chautauqua 6027 if they have the Dash in sight.

No indication from the recording as to any unusual sense of urgency or danger.

Very common at LGA, earlier this month the tower told us to go-around in an Airbus 321 from less than two hundred feet while landing on runway 4 due to a loss of seperation with a Delta 319 departing 31. No big deal...Russ Farris

And many other airports around the world - this appears to be no big deal.

One night at KDCA, I had a UAL B737 on Rwy 18 LAHSO Rwy 21 while I was comming in on 21. He got a little confused and decided to stop in the middle of the 18/21 intersection after my mains had already touched ground on 21.

Thats my idea of a near miss. I pretty sure his pax on the left side thought the same thing. I know the tower did.

My happy place is FL470 - what's yours?

Looks like Piedmont 4470 (Dash-8) taking off runway 31, United 684 just landed runway 22 and asked to speed up to exit runway at yankee with Chautauqua 6027 (E145) on short final behind them, then asked to go around.

Looks like SOP to me...

Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. In that order. You don't ask to go around. You go around then advise later once cockpit work load permits. A good controller will have a plan B, C and possibly D. With backup plans you are ensuring separation and a safe operation.

Two rules in aviation, don't hit anything and don't run out of gas, cause if you run out of gas yer gonna hit something.

He wasn't saying that the plane asked to go-around, but rather, that tower asked them to go around.

Correct, ATC asked/told Chautauqua 6027 to go around, fly 220 and climb maintain 1000.
