Nearing the 20th anniversary of the "Dixie Route" (Cargolux's route from Huntsville to LUX on behalf of Panalpina), Panalpina inaugurates a Hong Kong - Huntsville - Sao Paulo route to be operated by Atlas Air.

Wow, I had no idea that HSV had 74F service to LUX going back twenty years.

Why HSV? Auto industry?

Swiss forwarder Panalpina has a large operation there. I'm not sure exactly why HSV was chosen back then, but it seems like it was something the airport authority wanted and fought very hard for, and its efforts are paying off.

It's a good S.E. US location with a light to moderate use airport, two long runways, and intermodal capabilities with a rail yard on the property, and interstate and barge capabilities not far away.

We also get the occasional Kalitta Air 747, AeroUnion A300 and someone's DC-10 or MD-11 from time to time as well.

Cargolux's route from Huntsville to LUX on behalf of Panalpina

Is it all Panalpina (scheduled charter) or does Panalpina have a block space agreement for a certain volume? Apparently, whatever volume they have to HSV doesn't translate back to LUX, though, since the plane heads back via ATL nowadays (didn't it used to be MEX?).

I've got $h*t to do

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought it is all Panalpina.

The weekly Cargolux flight goes to ATL,but atlas goes to LUX several times a week, usually with a stop in Stanstead or Manchester. They also go to Mexico. The Brazil service has just started along with weekly service to hong kong, all operated by Atlas.
