Hello Aviation Fans,
This month it is all about the new flagship at Turkish Airlines.
TK started to receive its owned 77W frames last month. "Dolmabahce" and "Beylerbeyi" (named after old Turkish palaces), painted in the new livery, arrived with the introduction of the new Y+ class. 3 more will join the fleet before the end of the year and the remaining 7 will complete the order by next August. 3rd frame already can be seen at PAE. By then the leased 4 x 77Ws from 9W would leave.
TK opted for;
28 x J seats with 78" pitch in 2-3-2
63 x Y+ seats with 45" pitch in 2-3-2
246 x Y seats with 32" pitch in 3-3-3 arrangement.
In other news:
-TK starts its 3rd US destination this week, IAD. TK might add ATL to this flight, no news when yet.
-I wonder when TK will start to change the paint job on the older planes?
-Do we know if the new 319/321/738/739 arriving next year have the same interiors as the new LH fleet?
-Are there plans to change the interiors of the older 343s, 332s to match the new colors?
-Yesterday even the PM mentioned about the delays at IST and the necessity of a 3rd airport in Istanbul
-Lately we hear more incidents from TK, rapid expansion drawbacks?
-AnadoluJet starting Ankara-Moscow 3 x weekly, bringing the total of flights between two countries to 70 weekly.
-Sunexpress receiving another 738 shortly. How is Onur doing? Very quiet recently.
Please join us with your news, pictures, comments, rumors and sense of humor.

I can understand Hadj flights being full.. What I don't get is why TK send this premium equipment to the Hadj flight instead of using their but ugly Air Jamaica 340s or 330s that they are leasing from SAGA (if they are still doing it)

I am with you 100%. TK might be doing these short flights to get the kinks out. Also I am sure the belly is full of "Holy Water"!!
I hope you get the 77W on the IAD flight to write a TR.
And yes TK still has the SAGA 333 and the BMI 332.
I wonder if it was in the contract to use wide bodies for these trips. Otherwise it is a waste of capacity to carry 65 pax on a A343. It might have been a better PR if TK sent the ManU logojet 738 for the trip.

Quoting TK787 (Thread starter): Yesterday even the PM mentioned about the delays at IST and the necessity of a 3rd airport in Istanbul
the delays are becoming more and more (and we are not even in the summer months!!!). just some examples from my own experience:
out of 10 flights from/to IST within the last 14days in total 8 had delays due to slot restrictions (according to the pilot). in particular my MUC-IST flight yesterday and the very same flight a week ago had delays more than 45min. that is NOT 5-Star...
Quoting TK787 (Thread starter): Do we know if the new 319/321/738/739 arriving next year have the same interiors as the new LH fleet?
I don't know about the interiors, but do you know if the 738/739 will get the new Boeing "Sky Interior" cabin desing?
Quoting TK787 (Thread starter): -TK starts its 3rd US destination this week, IAD
Quoting Turkish350XWB (Reply 2): Now it appears at 4w instead of 5w as announced earlier... Or am i seeing it wrong?
yes you are right, I was also suprised to see that. Looking for the week 08NOV - 14NOV the CRS says:
MO no flight
TU 330
SA) and Rheintalflug (Austria)">WE no flight
TH 330
FR 77W
SA no flight
SU 77W

First Class is available for selling on this flight so it seems like one of the JetAirways aircraft, but as we all know, its TK so everything is possible

About the idea of building a 3rd airport and the capacity limits in Istanbul.. I recently flew to Ankara ESB and on the landing, I noticed that there is a huge empty area around the airport. Why dont TK utilize ESB instead of IST?
If TK is going to be a global player and an airline which will rely on connection traffic, then there is no reason that the main hub is IST, it might as well be ESB, which is expandable.
What do you think? Would it be feasible?

Even SAW can't be an alternative to IST with ample room to build more runways.

Quoting AF022 (Reply 15): When will TK start returning 77Ws to 9W?
I have a feeling we might see these 4 frames finding new homes earlier than August 2011. TK doesn't need them come January when TK has its own 5 frames and traffic drops in Turkey. 9W might want them back earlier also. If not there are no 77Ws avail out there, so no problems leasing them. TK needs to standardize its premium product, get rid of F, especially during winter months.
