A6-EDA of Emirates Airlines performed a flyover of today's Melbourne Cup in Australia.

A6-EDA flew direct from Sydney and returned immediately after performing the flyover.

Wow, it looks like they cancelled the SYD-AKL-SYD leg today for it..

Its a pity that EK did not announce MEL-DXB was becoming A380. Would have worked like a great PR chance for the upgrade lol

Looked great flying over Flemington.

I have herd from an insider at Emirates that A380 flights from DXB-MEL-AKL-MEL-DXB will begin in mid 2011.

I hope so but EK staff have been saying the A380 would appear on the EK406 route the above mentioned service in the mid of the up coming year since EK recieved their first one. I'm must confess I'm not holding my breath, they only recently upgraded all their MEL services to the 77w. Still fingers crossed!

They haven't upgraded BNE's EK434 to 77W yet.. Hinting to me that MEL will get the A380 before BNE. I reckon it could come down before the rugby world cup..

Saw the A380 lapping over my house in the Eastern suburbs whilst waiting to be called in for the 2 flyovers. I am always amazed how incredibly graceful these planes are in flight.

Totally agree. EK is such a micrmanaged business that no one really knows what is going on outside of HQ in Dubai. Even thn, decisions change on a whim.

I will not hold my breath that it will happen. If it was, you would thoink they would make an announcement now in line with the PR that they could get, with their Melbourne Cup sponsorship and large presence.

I just hope the TV crews got it a bit better than they did on the BBC coverage of the Formula 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year.

Martin Brundle commented on the flyover of an Etihad A346 as 'Wow look at that Emirates Jumbo doing a flyby'.. I bet Etihad PR would have felt pretty sick if they found that out!
