It's truly been ages since I last submitted a topic on this forum...I was just wondering if any new flights was on the horizon or being considered for 2011?

PDX isn't slated to get any new flights in 2011..yet. Here are some ideas I have:

AS - by far the most likely carrier to add service. They have successfully added ORD and Hawaii recently, while also upgrading Bay Area flights back to mainline. Potential additions could include (in order of most to least likely): LIH, AUS, MCO, SJD, PVR, or some of the newer stations East of the Rockies like MSP, ATL, or IAH.

F9 - MKE nonstops, probably seasonal at first to gauge demand

KE - ICN service

VX - probably not in 2011, but sooner or later they will link PDX with SFO and LAX!

WN - MKE and/or ATL flights to link this relatively important station with the FL network once the merger is underway

Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

I agree that AS will add service thanks to the largely successful Portland initiative, and I do think we will see PDX-LIH this year. I don't know about AUS as AUS is already connected via a same-plane one stop through SJC. MCO was tried and was unfortunately not successful, and BOS while profitable, isn't a huge home run, so I don't think we'll see another east coast.

I think mostly what we'll see is AS adding back to markets from PDX to what they've cut in recent years, such as SFO, SJC, ONT, and BUR (as QX phases out the CRJ-700s, I think they'll at least try these markets for a little while, but I have no idea if they'd last). If we do see another East Coast flight out of PDX, it would probably come from another airline's cut, such as, say, if DL ever cut PDX-JFK... or if AS were able to secure another DCA slot(s) and range-exemption, I could see PDX-DCA, though I'd imagine they'd probably rather add SEA-DCA frequencies instead.

Cheers!
Anthony/Airport

Personally, I'd like to see:

AA - PDX-ORD
AS - PDX-EWR
VX - SFO/LAX-PDX

I know everyone talks about VX adding PDX, but I just don't see it. The fact that AS downgraded to QX on these routes shows yields are terrible. Why would VX want to compete against WN and AS/QX in markets that are already very difficult to make money in?

I would love to see WN add BWI. The only other nonstop to WAS is IAD on UA. DCA slots are very prized, so an I think any additions would be to SEA or LAX.

Why did AS flights to Mexico disappear? I never heard the reasoning behind that.

DL has recently said that CDG is a possibility to complement AMS. Whether in 2011 or much later, who knows. Personally, I'd like to see some increased short haul service. QX has cut back PDX so much, it would be great to get short hops back to cities in the NW and Northern CA that have been cut. Tough with the large Q400 though.

US Certainly kept CLT-PDX operating longer into the shoulder season. Perhaps next year will be "the year" of the year-round service.

As with other service possibilities: I would look for LIH and/or AUS from AS (or in the case of the latter, AS or B6). Intel is getting big in the area (does Intel have ops in AUS?).

Based on other threads in the fora, it sounds like VX is not going to serve Portland for at least the next 12 months, so we can only hope for 2012.

On a more regional scale, I would think that SeaPort could offer a route from PDX and Yakama, WA.

I think I'd like to see the non-stops flights that are seasonal extended to year round as well.

I think a BWI flight would be sweet, but otherwise, I think we're well covered.
Would love a flight to MIA or so, but I hear the MCO flight was a disaster.

What about cargo flights? Are there plans to replaced the discontinued China cargo flight?

Of all the possibilities at PDX...the most likely are more Q400's on Horizon.

I don't think we'll see too much at PDX in 2011. I agree that as QX phases out the jets, the longer routes such as BUR and ONT will be kicked over to AS. WIth an all Q-400 fleet, I do not see any segment longer than PDX-FAT being viable in the long run.

I could see the possibility of B6 going somewhere from PDX to CA with the E-190 if AS/QX pll back too much.

WN will probably have some seasonal adds to MDW, DEN, OAK.

Until Oregon's economy gets back on track, I do not think we'll see too much exciting stuff in Portland (would love to see LH return!)

I'm pretty positive you will see a PDX-MKE on F9.

Agreed. Would love to see another European flight at PDX, given the poor quality of DL's service. Unfortunately I think it might be a few years away at best, but with transatlantic yields returning, I guess you never know.

Took US PDX-CLT earlier this year and the flight was packed in front and back. As I walked on the plane, the flight attendants commented on how surprised they were to see such a full flight on a Tuesday night. On my way back to PDX while in CLT I saw an LH 343 and got very sad.

Trouble is that the most likely airline to add another Europe flight probably IS DL. (to CDG).
