In my other life (as a news reporter) I had the opportunity to take a look at Austin Straubel Airport's new Snow Removal Equipment Facility (SRE) that was built on the southeast side of the airfield. Airport officials are very excited about the addition, because it's LEED certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Some photos from the ribbon-cutting ceremony last night:
This sign is part of the airport's new marketing campaign, focusing on luggage tags with cute messages. Other examples are 'PKR FAN', 'SKI BUM', and 'NEW BIZ'.
Holding the giant scissors are Brown County Executive Tom Hinz and Airport Director Tom Miller.
The airport has also launched a fantastic new website: http://www.flygrb.com, which looks outstanding and brings GRB on par with major airports, in terms of web presence.
As a fan of the airport and aviation in general, it makes me very happy to see GRB making these upgrades, especially since they're embracing green technology. I hope that it's a sign of things to come in the Green Bay metro/Brown County.
