GIG is a great airport, modern, easy to walk, you will have no problems here.
Outside take a special taxi, do not take the a normal taxi, or follow the guys that will be there offering cars. You will find some special taxi cabins where it will cost 15-20 dollars from GIG to your hotel, or rent a car.
Enjoy your trip!

We will be taking the MD-11 non-stop service. Does anyone have any pictures of GIG? The airliners.net database had a few, but I would be interested in any you might have.

I wouldnt agree with the comments about GIG being a modern airport at all. It certainly isnt terrible or anything, but modern .... no.
I agree about the Taxi's though, make sure to take one from one of the help desks as opposed to the 300 offers per minute that you will receive.

When I said that GIG was modern I was talking about the TP2(terminal 2), that you may don't know.
But even the TP1, where DL operate has a modern and spacious design, it's a very nice airport.
This photo of GIG is about 5 or more years old, the TP2 is being constructed, now RG, AF, UA, AA, LH... have their flights there.

I flew with Continental into GIG in January. And when I think of modern airports, I think of CDG, HKG, NRT, EWR. I found GIG to be like a bad 70's movie. That aside, I just loved Brazil, loved the people, loved the food, the weather... the beaches... history etc

Well for sure a modern airport does not nedd to be a huge one! TP2 is brand new and looks much better than MIA Terminals, except from AA´s that´s fantastic!!!!
Anyway, TP1 is a bit old fashioned, late 70/80s i guess, still is quite good!! Very easy to go through! Is way beetr than GRU, extremely busy, confusing and outdated. TP1 and Tp2 just can´t handle the traffic.
