Hi
I haven't seen this in the forum yet, but ITAR-TASS press agency is reporting Orient Thai Airways will take 12x Sukhoi SSJ-100-95 with first deliveries in late 2011.

Well done to Sukhoi.
From the OP's linked article:
The company’s leadership said that “negotiations the Russian partner Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has entered the final stage, and we are ready for the delivery before 2014 of 12 passenger airliners at 25 million us dollars per aircraft.”

I dont see this coming trough. By th time they will be able to make final payments, OX will be dead. Their concept doesnt fit in to the Thai Market. OX is an airline which is hardly being used. There are so many choices available now and with Thai's Tiger Express just around the corner, we are going to have another Low Budget Airline. Wait and see...

Now forgive my ignorance here, but isn't it surprising that they didn't go with the C919? Or are relations between Thailand and China such that a Thai airline wouldn't buy a Chinese aircraft?
Either way, it's an impressive order for the SSJ. I think this aircraft is going to be the force to be reckoned with, not the ARJ or C919.

The C919 is much larger, and a paper plane, whereas the SSJ is much closer to entry. The ARJ would have been the Chinese alternative, perhaps Orient Thai didn't want to replace a DC9 derivative with another (distant) DC9 relative!
it's the bus to stansted (now renamed national express a4 to ruin my username)

Seems like I remember reading/hearing that this prder by OX is heavily discounted and is meant to entice the Thai government in inking a huge deal to buy Russian made military equipment.

A good sized order from an important region for future sales.
Quoting art (Reply 4): Unusual to publish the actual price, isn't it?
Yes it's not too common, but a great insight. A discount of $6.7 million per frame is pretty hefty, but I guess they think it's worth it for gaining orders in what will be seen as a very important region.
This is also pretty interesting:
Quote: According to Sukhoi, ongoing certification tests are confirming that the aircraft’s direct operating costs are 6-8 percent lower than those of its key competitor, the Embraer 190/195.
If that is ultimately independently confirmed, then Sukhoi will have one hell of an aircraft on it's hands. I only hope they pull off the production side of things.
