United 767-300 Makes Emergency Landing At DSM

I'm at the airport right now. Apparently it was smoke in the cabin and the plane was either going to or from IAD.

Flight aware can't process the diversion.

I wonder why they went to DSM instead of OMA as it looks like they were closer to Omaha.

If the info on FlightAware is correct it looks like they were going to divert to O'hare and changed their minds.

Well..they need some distance to descend, so if they were right over OMA it might have taken them longer to try to get down and make OMA, then to continually descend and make DSM!

They are still in the process of transferring the cargo over to the new 767-300. I can't recall the last time DSM had 2 United 767's chillin' out at the airport...
