Some pilots don't make that much money. Even cab drivers can make more money then a regional pilot.

It all depends what sort of pilot you are and your seniority!

It depends on what aircraft that they fly. Regional pilots dont make as much as say 747 pilots do.

From what I've gathered, the average starting wage for a FO in a TP here in the US is around $18,000. Senior captains can easily earn 6 figures.

It depends what pilots are you talking about. Depends where ( what airline) and on what equipment.
Examples ( facts):
- starting F/O in average regional in USA- $16-25K/year
- starting F/O in major airline in USA- $30-45K/year
- senior captain(5 year experience) in ACA on ERJ- $100K/year
- senior captain on 767 in LOT polish airlines $40K/year
- senior captain on 742 in NWA - $330K/year
- starting F/O in Emirates - $50K/year TAX FREE!

As you can see, it varies very much. One thing I know for sure is that paychecks for pilots will grow. Both for majors, and regionals.

By the way, if you were talking about Comair strike, i can tell you, that they were not on strike, because they didnt have for food. They just wanted to be payed like majors- per amount of passengers they carry.

BO_einG,
In major airlines you have to fly for about 20 years to be considered senior captain. About 7-8 years to be senior first officer.
In regionals it is much shorter time. About 10 years for senior captain.

An AA 777 captains' son goes to my school, and he is on my brother's hockey team. I asked him(the captain) and he said the pay varies, he gets paid more than lets say, an MD-80 captain for a few reasons including:
flight time(the individual flight)
passengers
revenue generated
those are only a few factors involved(i don't know all of them) but a high ranked pilot like a captain can easily earn 6 digits(as stated in above posts)

PolAir,

ACA doesn't fly ERJs. They fly CANADAIR REGIONAL JETS. I guess $40,000 a year in Poland is maybe like $300,000 in US. Like back in the 50s expensive things cost $5 which is now equivelent to like $20-$30+. Geez, Senior capt on LOT making $40k.
