Cool. One of my favorite UA liveries of all time. Although it would have been nice to see it on a 744, I suppose an A320 will do.

Hot damn! I'm glad this livery won out. I still wish they would have stuck with the 757 but I understand the reasoning behind choosing the A320. Looking forward to seeing the A320 Friend Ship at SJC and SFO!

Awesome! Not the livery I would have picked personally, but I think the Friendship Stars and Bars will look very smart on an A320 and I can't wait to see the plane!

I spoke to an off duty UA flight attendant last night on my flight IAD-JFK and he was very upbeat about the merger. Even if it doesn't reflect the opinion of everyone, I think there are exciting times again for the new United.

Yeah a 744 would have been nice, but an A320 will be seen in more US/ N. American markets (save for HNL).

On a slightly different but similar topic, I wonder how long CO's retro 739 "Blue Skyway" has left, considering the UA take over.

I'm so happy to hear this! Although part of me was pulling for the 247 livery, the Friendship livery is a fantastic scheme and will really look great flying around our country. Will definitely stand out against all the eurowhite schemes flying around!

I believe I read somewhere (possibly on Skynet) that it will stay in that scheme until the next repaint cycle. The stars and bars will look great on the A320, though I wish they had stuck with the 757. But who cares, we're finally getting a (long overdue) UA retro jet!!!

AWESOME!! I think the Friendship livery is an excellent way to bring in the new UNITED. While I didn't have the opportunity to vote, that is what I would have chosen. Its going to look great on the A320 and I look forward to seeing her around.

Hmm the 320s will stay in the fleet that long? Stinks we all have to wait a long time to see it

IMHO would've looked much nicer on a 744 (at least the same family of aircraft that once wore that color scheme) or a 757 being similar in size to the DC8. A320...not so sure.

Thought they were painting a 757-200...weren't all the liveries employees could choose from displayed as being on one a month or so ago?

it may be an 40 year old livery but why that one??? United hasn't had a decent livery since the B-247 or the B-40 days... although some of the blue nosed DC-3s are interesting.

That was the original plan but they changed the aircraft type midway through voting.

The pity is that they need to paint a 744 or a 777 in this livery.

It would have been nice to see it on a 787, but, well... that's a different thread.

Although I'm more of a fan of the "rainbow" and the livery before the "Friendship," I do look forward to seeing this A320 grace the friendly skies! A 757 might have been nicer considering it's similar lines to the DC-8, but since more stations see the A320 it makes sense to choose that instead.

Quoting rj777 (Reply 8):

Depends on your definition of major. If we're talking legacies, then no. But if you include Alaska, Frontier, JetBlue, and Hawaiian, they all haven't done one. And although they're not around anymore, Northwest never did one, either.

Quoting flashmeister (Reply 21):

The Spirit of Delta was the only DL retro jet.

Well it's not a 744, but in my thread on 'Vintage 747 color' footage (13:37), thet UA 741 landing at HNL wears this exact scheme..with the Four stars and all.
