I came across this, but couldn't see anything untoward on Flightaware about a round trip JFK-JFK for that flight number.

Any news? Damage extensive or is it back in the air?

It's on avherald: http://www.avherald.com/h?article=43486ee9&opt=0

Also, I think you must have been looking at the wrong date on flightaware. Set it to December 11, you'll see the return to JFK.

That avherald piece is "interesting". A fire of any kind is enough to grant a diversion (unless it's some haute cuisine flambée of course). But then it also reports fuel pumps malfunctioning, that's not good. And given how the report is written I'm guessing the person that wrote it got the info from listening to the communication.

So the airline commenting that "the crew returned because of an abundance of caution" does not seem accurate.

Is it me or does it seem that DL is having a number of these higher profile issues lately? I suppose with that many flights on a given day it is bound to happen, but I wonder if it is a trend developing.
