Today both airlines submitted a joint application to commence “atleast” daily year-round service between Los Angeles and Guadalajara Mexico utilizing B737 equipment effective May 3, 2011.

OST-2010-TBA

For reference, LAX-GDL has grown to become the largest US-Mexico traffic city-pairing.

The 4-way battle at LAX continues post UA/CO merger. UA has one major advantage: gate space. So assuming that UA starts all the service they've applied for, what Mexican cities will they serve from LAX? CUN, MEX, PVR, SJD, GDL, and BJX?

This seems ideal for the new United. I think they will have no problem on the route in a "Mexicanaless" LAX. UA LAX-MEX service frequency is now better for business travelers too. I think UA has more possibilities out there from LAX and they will consider them. The new CO looks at LAX as a much more potential market than the old UA did so i think they will remain aggressive and look for new routes.

I think its becoming a 3 way battle domestically and 2 way internationally, Virgin America is very interesting and i think long term will be a major player and aprt of the battle scene at LAX, they need somewhere to put all their new aircraft coming in! They have been very well received by the flying public there, its very LA.

Delta has already given up its just time as all the non-hub routes are crumbling recent cuts and reductions include LAX-BDL/CMH/RDU/GDL/IND/PVR . Look at Delta recently AA and UA have both made some nice additions and DL has done some nice cuts to the non-hubs. More seats to the hubs and the local feeder flights for the international startups. I think some of those feeder flights are temporary to get people on routes long term i see them being axed once the flights are self sustaining. Notice that Delta voluntarily dropped LAX-MEX and shockingly went as far as dropping LAX-GDL and reducing LAX-PVR post Mexicana breakup! The dropping of LAX-GDL post Mexicana just seemed ridiculous to me I don't know why they wouldn't have brought it back in December is beyond me and i think says alot about Deltas problems getting originating LAX passengers on their flights. Post Mexicana and Christmas they couldnt fill a plane on LAX-GDL, IIRC deltas LAX-GDL always had load occupancy problems. UA should do much better on the route with a much larger FF base and much better ability to get LAX originating passengers on the plane.

I am shocked they didn't apply for ORD to GDL too!

I would venture to say that UA's narrow body shortage after the 737s were retired made PMUA very selective about the routes it could operate with the remaining n/b fleet. Additions came at the expense of a cut elsewhere. No doubt that the arriving CO 737s are creating new flying opportunities at the UA hubs. LAX was severely pruned -- hope to see more out of both LAX and SFO!

Not surprising at all. I'm sure new UA will try and expand their presence in LAX-MEX.

I was not aware that LAX-PHX, LAS, SAN, SFO, MSY, TPA, FLL, HNL, LIH, KOA, OGG, CUN, GUA, and SYD had all crumbled.

2 way internationally

I don't recall there being much of a difference in the size of AA's and DL's LAX international networks.

does anybody know if there are plans for any carrier to start SFO-GDL? it has become extremely difficult to find airfares at a reasonable price on this route.

I think its becoming

I think we will see AA look at more possibilities and expand and DL will reduce or at best stay the same. I think Delta is gonna have a real challenge on Tokyo Haneda long term but time will tell

AA flies year round to
London Heathrow, San José del Cabo, San Juan(kind of international), San Salvador, Shanghai-Pudong Tokyo-Narita, Toronto-Pearson

delta flies year round to

Tokyo x2, Guatemala City, Sydney

WOW someone takes this site way too seriously. This isn't an associated press article. Look I'm sorry i used Wikipedia my mistake and i guess the GDL hasn't been updated or it will be seasonal. I do like to see you all worked up  Everyone makes mistakes including you.

To start delta had added LAX-CMH to the scheds and had canceled it

Delta use to run IND-LAX daily they cut it down to i think 4x a week when i looked at Feb and Saturday is gone all year at least so there have been reductions on the route

No I don't get worked up, but it would be nice if you would just look at a timetable before you post. Every time someone starts a thread about LAX you bring up how Delta cut 1 or 2 citys and forget to bring up that LAX is up over 30% for Delta YOY. (the largest gain out of all the hubs/ Focus citys)

CMH was never canceled, only cut back to 3-4 weekly.

LAX-IND is 5x weekly, 4x weekly in JAN-FEB and 6x weekly in March. AFAIK post merger it has never been daily out side of the peak summer season.

yep.
