I was on AF website, and I was curious to see the fares on the MIA route for next fall. I saw that the flights will be operated with 77Ws from Nov 1st instead of the usual 744.

I don't know if we should say "it's about time" or "we'll regret the queen of the sky"
the 77W will have a new Y seat with entertainment and clean cabin but also a dreadfull 3X4X3 seating
The mini Y cabin on the upper deck of the 744 was really cool though...

For us (AF F/A's), it will for sure be a very good thing !

All pax will have their own screen, crew rest is much more comfortable, we will not be ashamed of our lavatories (even if they are supposed to redo those in the B744)

Agree with you but the 77W will also offer Economy Premium seats while reduces the economy seats (will be around 50 fewer seats) which also means MIA will be served with a plane with more "premium" seats.
Together with MIA, GIG will also have the aircraft switch to 77W, but only in 2011.

New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

The config of these 77Ws will be:
42J / 24W / 317 Y, ie 383 seats.
So, it will be a downgauge from the 744s: 40J/ 389 Y, ie 429 seats.
So, AF offer to MIA will drop by 46 seats everyday, which is significant (322 seats weekly!)

Do they plan an additional daily flight?(or why not a 3-weekly flight for example)

Maybe it has to do that KLM will also start operating to MIA. So you have a choice of connecting in AMS or CDG.

AF B744 config is : 40J / 396Y = 436 seats

So even less seats !

There is nothing significant being cut. Air France, as you know, has long had a merged trans-Atlantic operation with Delta and KLM; and since June, Alitalia.

In May 2010, there was simply Air France's 436 daily seats (6,104 a week, both ways). In May 2010, not only is there Air France's 6,104 seats, but Alitalia has 4,628 seats a week, KLM returns to Miami with 2,280 seats a week and Delta is adding Heathrow service, another 3,094 seats.

Air France is operating or profit sharing to Miami on a whopping 163% more seats YOY. Even the smaller 77W still has capacity up 153%. Skyteam, which operates these flights metal neutral, needs to control that. Traffic that Air France used to fly via Paris to Amsterdam, London, Milan and Rome, it now wants to send non-stop.

BOM seems to have been changed from a B772 to an A343 again for S11. I would consider that a downgrade in terms of Software.

MIA will be the third city seeing the new AF 773 (without P) after SGN and LIM. DEL will follow.
This new A/C implies a 50 seats drop but KLM will also fly to MIA from now on, so overall, it's an increase of the AF/KLM offer at MIA, and AF can still add a secondary flight like they used to do a few years ago with an A343, who knows...

Or they can even use a 772 (with the new config, ie without F class) for the secondary flight.
BTW, which a/c type does KLM use on the AMS-MIA flight?

Miami-Milan is one of three routes with the new cabins (the others are JFK-Rome and JFK-Milan).

What is wrong with the M11?
The cabins have been refurbished, including PTV's in Y. In fact the Y-class seats are same that KL has installed in their 77E fleet.
So far I had two flights (both AMS-SFO) on the KL M11s with the refurbished cabins and both flights were excellent!

I know they have a nice interior now, but the fact is that I am not a fan of the ageing MD11...This a/c has not aged gracefully IMO, but that's another story

The 3-3-3 config in Y looked so much better!

I hope they switch to the 777 on the CDG-SFO route as well. Although recently as back as september I flew CDG-SFO on B774 and each seat had it's own personal screen. I flew the AF B777 CDG-BEY.

CDG-SFO will remain with a Daily B744 for the summer season 2011 (AF084 / 083).
The additional flight 3 x Weekly ( AF080 / 085 ) will also be operated with a B744 instead of an A343 last summer.

Before MIA, and after SGN, Those new B77W will replace the B744 on CDG-GIG-CDG.

I doubt and it seems MIA will got the 77W from GIG. The 744 will return to CDG-GIG for the IATA winter 2011/2012. Seems that AF will try to use the 744 where the demand is higher. It seems like they do between 772/77W for some routes.

MIA and routes in the northern hemisphere during IATA summer, GIG and others during IATA winter got the 744.

Does anyone know when LH will fly the 380 to MIA? I was told they were meant to come this winter or something like that.
