Why Is A DL A330 In ABQ This Morning

Flightaware let me down and I cannot figure this one out.

Well there is a DL A330 parked on runway 35 north of taxiway B. And obviously 17/35 is closed (not that it is ever used much anymore).

The only possible reason I can think it is here is because of the New Mexico Bowl that is on Saturday.... BYU playing UTEP. So is this the BYU charter?

And any ABQ based people you can probably get a good look/photos of it from the north viewing area.

Did they finally close it? The last I read, it was still available for use with prior permission. Although if memory serves it was limited to 35 arrival/17 departure and only on the portion south of 8/26.

I might just have to wander over there and do a look-see...

1. Did the A333 park at a gate at the terminal, or did they park at Cutter Aviation?

2. What is the tail number of this aircraft?

The reason New Mexico is so windy is because Texas sucks and Arizona blows.

I would bet my money on N817NW. It's the only A333 I can find that's absent from regular service on ACARS and FlightAware in the necessary timeframe.

TBH not a clue, I only noticed it the other morning when it was sitting out there. And I don't think that DL has a gate that can fit a widebody. Maybe if an adjacent gate is empty, but then the A330 would be sticking its butt out into the alley.

I'd imagine DL's A330 utilization isn't too high this time a year, especially as it seems like they are content to let it sit out at ABQ getting rained and snowed on. I imagine the crews are probably deadheading in and out to operate this charter.

It is still open but it is restricted to MTOW

Delta.com didn't list an arrival gate number, so I wasn't sure if they pulled up to the terminal, or went over to Cutter Aviation. DL parked a diverted 777-200ER at Gate B10 about two or three years ago.
