I landed on sunday at midnight Sunday the 26th and I was surprised by the number of planes there were at JAX
not only was there a plane at every gate, there was around 10+ planes on the tarmac near the concourses, most notably SW which had 7 planes (I thought it was odd because SW only has around 20 flights a day?) and DL had 8 and 1 on the way from ATL. Is it like this every night in JAX? and how many RONs are there a night there?
Thanks

For DL they should have 4 757 rons from ATL, 1 CRJ from MEM, 1 CRJ from CVG, 1 CR9 from DTW, 1 319 from LGA, 1 E75 from MSP, and 1 CRJ from DCA. And soon to be 1 CRJ from MIA. All those RON totaling 10 right now.

How many hardstands does JAX actually have these days? Been a while since I've last been there, and the most up-to-date Google Earth imagery is too darn bright to actually make out the apron positions.

But at least all those RONs ensure that all the empty gates have at least some use.

There may have been more than usual as well with the lousy WX in the NE. Airplanes that were supposed to go to EWR/LGA/JFK and the like may have cancelled and been sitting in JAX until their destinations re-opened.

Delta had about 6 extra RONs at MCO (Delta usually has 12-14, but this day close to 20), SWA about 12 extra, JBU 3 extra, COA 3 extra, AA 2 extra. These were all in addition to what MCO usually gets as RONs due to snowstorms up north. I am sure this is why you saw so many planes at JAX that night.

As a wkly JAX traveler (30+ wks this year) the DL # seems on the money as 'OOSLC' listed above however the WN # seems high ... late Sundays I've not seen but 1 WN parked away from a gate around 11:30pm -12:30am

Ya there were 3 at the c concourse 2 behind the concourse waiting behind, and also 2 in the middle of the airport where the old b concourse was, DL also had a couple planes there.

Quoting OOSLC (Reply 1):

is 10 a large amount compared to other DL airports? because if MCO averages 12 a night and im pretty sure they have double the amount of flights that JAX has at least for there DL schedule...

JAX has 25 daily flights, mainly ATL. WN and DL pretty much tie for the amount of traffic at JAX for 1st place. So 10 rons is kinda a lot for a 25 daily city.

MCO has about 50-55 flights a day and a LOT more of those are mainline flights vs JAX being a lot of RJs.

JAX: 1.4 mil pax a year on DL
MCO 4.7 mil pax a year on DL

B6 as 1 RON in JAX, looks like (at least as per the Feb-2011 flight schedule) it's an A320 that departs for JFK in the morning.
