Just saw a Delta 747-400 parked on the tarmac opposite of the terminals at SAN. As far as I know, no 744s operate out of SAN on a regular basis, cargo or passenger. Anyone know what's up?

I haven't looked for sure, but Nebraska is playing in the Holiday Bowl, and they always take a 744 to their bowl game.

Last movement of a DL 744 I can find on flight aware is DL 8919 LNK-SAN.Then it shows it taking off for Forbes Field in Kansas. All of this on the 25th.

Don't think it was the Huskers. Flightaware shows a DL 752, a SY 738, two Falcon Air MD83's from LNK to SAN on Tuesday this week.

Delta flight 8915 JAX-SAN, came in yesterday.

Looks like the routing was DTW-JAX-SAN.

So who is flying from JAX, and how did a 744 get to JAX?

Position ferry to take Nebraska or the band home after bringing the Michigan band down to JAX for the Gator Bowl, would be my guess.

Always wonderers if this "last and final boarding call" is in fact THE last and final boarding call.

For these charters, they normally just deadhead it.

The one that is there now, N667US did not have the Huskers on board.

Crews can be even trickier though. I know in the case of the Huskers charter to SAN last week, even though the plane came in from DTW, some of the FAs at least were deadheaded in from other bases to work the flight.

I was planning on it, but I could never find out when it was going to depart. I assume it's already gone by now...

Here's a video of DL8919 departing SAN, filmed by fellow a.netter redrooster3. Not the best video (according to him), but I'm sure it's a sight that is rarely seen, so that's something.

I missed all of the 747 visits this time.   Between being off of work at the time, and being sick the past few days, I never got out to get it. Oh well. Next time...
