With the BNE airport relatively close to the river and the severe flooding in the Brisbane area in the next 48 hours, how well is the airport protected from flooding?

BRISBANE Airport is expected to remain open throughout the flood crisis, authorities say.

The airport was affected by relatively few delays today, with those that did impact passengers blamed on lightning which forced baggage handlers to shelter indoors.

Two aircraft were forced to sit on the asphalt for about half an hour after landing because of the situation.

Rain lashed the airport's runways, causing a small amount of standing water on their fringes.
