What's the latest on the stored NW DC-9s in MZJ? With the 30s/40s now retired, what is the fate for these birds? Will they all be scrapped or stored until they get sold? How many stored and in-flyable condition DC-9s do they still have in the desert?

The -30's that were retired throughout 2010 were sent to SFB to be parted out and broken up, not MZJ
The 7 remaining -40s that were retired (the 1 back in October and the 6 that left the fleet last week) were all sent to SFB to be parted out and broken up, not MZJ

Earlier last year a few -30's were ferried from MZJ to SFB.

Not sure what actually remains in MZJ, but whatever is there likely isn't going to be leaving.

What was the fate of N8920E and N8921E? They were the oldest 30s in the fleet and the 95th/96th ones off the line.

No guarantee this is 100% accurate...but I believe it is...These are the DC-9's stored at Marana that are still registered to the Delta certificate. There may be a few more DC-9's still in Marana that were sold for parts or another operator.

Thanks for that list.

I noticed in this picture taken this year that these DC-9s appear to be wearing the "Operated by Delta" sticker by the L1 door, and I know not all of them flew for DL in 2010 as the sticker is on Bowling Shoe planes, too, which for the DC-9 were gone by the time the merger was approved. Is there a requirement to put the sticker on even when the plane is in storage?

I don't know how to make the image appear in the post, sorry.

My source indicated that as NW aircraft transferred to Delta either active or stored, with the possibility of returning to active duty before being repainted in delta livery were to carry the stickers per FAA rules, NWA aircraft will loose their stickers "Operated by NWA" as they become full DELTA aircraft.
