I thought LX already covered MAN or is that only seasonal?

Interesting, especially as we have been expecting a reduction in service from LHR to MAN and possible loss of LHR-GLA. Instead we get additional service. Where are the slots coming from, what service is being pulled down?

Looking at the MAN schedule it appears the Aircraft will operate a W pattern, LHR-BSL-MAN-BSL-MAN.

The rumoured reduction in LHR-MAN and LHR-GLA will probablty free up aircraft to operate this route.

interesting that LH's strategy seems to be to get BMI to fly routes that were served by their other carriers... LH/OS/LX

This is just another of those routes - it seems LH can make more money from their other carriers... ie putting a loss making bmi plane on the route frees up another aircraft for OS/LX etc to fly elsewhere.... goes to show that bmi is really a basket case and the LH group dont really care much for their short haul ops.... mid haul seems to be where they make their money.

According to LX's press release today, these flights will be operated on behalf of LX, just like some of the daily GVA-LHR flights.

there seems to be a trend here, not sure i like it though.

Actually they're not. Both LHR and MAN will be operated as code-shares. You can already book them on both the BD and the LX websites.

It seems not. BD currently have one A319 operating LHR-GVA for LX. This will return to Swiss metal on the day that the new BSL routes start.

It also seems that Swiss will keep the Saturday flight to MAN with an Avro RJ100 as well, making the route 6 weekly.

But from a different terminal, just to keep things nice and simple...

But they wouldn't be the pioneers of such a strategy. Lifted from the MAN timetable search:

15:05(T3) 17:35 Sat+Sun AF 2269 Air France CDG 27/03/2011 - 29/10/2011
15:05(T2) 17:35 Mon-Fri AF 2269 Air France CDG 28/03/2011 - 31/03/2011

So if AF is doing, can't see what's wrong with BD/LX doing it.

That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen!

At least BD and LX are different airlines

BMI should also simutaneously publish an expected service end date, as invariably these services get terminated.

Not sure how you can lose money on LHR-MAN and LHR-GLA, but there you go.

Reducing capacity on the LHR-MAN by downgrading to an EMB could be one of the reasons.

A city-centre to city-centre train every 20 minutes that takes 2 hours would be another.

Exactly. Anyone in the City or close proximity who travels out to LHR, goes through all the hassle of an airport to then fly to MAN instead of going to Euston and getting the train is mad or a member of A.Net.

What will Happen to LX' flights between LCY and BSL? Will all London services move to LHR? In which case, what will happen to the LCY slots? Will LX use them themselves and increase services to ZRH and/or GVA? Or give them to another company of the LH group of airlines? I personally cannot think of any LH/LX/OS/SN destination that couldn't be served because of slot shortage, but I can think of LH/LX/OS/SN lines that were ended.

So what's the situation?

Or got a plane ticket plus lounge access for 2 for £80 each on a Friday night when the cheapest train was £200 return.
