Wow, looks like Terminal E will be bustling with activity... A welcome change from the non-stop AA traffic...

Quoting burnsie28 (Thread starter): Delta will add extra capacity for the Superbowl for both Packers and Steelers fans.
And they've jacked the fares to outer-space! $900 MKE-DFW round-trip in Y class? Who in their right mind would pay such a fare? I mean, I know there's hard-core football fans out there, but still. I can think of a lot better ways to spend $900....

Well its showing as double that for the non-stop from PIT at $1,800.
Right now Frontier is showing $500 RT for Y MKE-DFW stopping in MCI and DEN before getting to DFW.
Otherwise one-stop itens start at $600 from MKE on DL.
PIT-DFW is running $453 with one-stop on US Airways, otherwise its $900 RT non-stop on AA.
The Non-stop out of GRB is running $771 with taxes

Should also note that it seems if you choose any of the non-stops the DL return results force you to take the return non-stops, so these flights although not surprisingly are targeted at taking those non-stops only.

If someone is willing to pay the sky-high ticket prices for the game, a $900 r/t is a drop in the bucket. You grossly underestimate the amounts of money some of NFL fans are willing to pay to watch their team in the Super Bowl.

I looked at AA flying ORD-DFW on Super Bowl weekend (before the Bears lost). Getting out of DFW to ORD on the 7th looked to be a nightmare. Almost every flight until after 5pm was full or nearly full.
It didn't appear that AA was swapping out MD-80s for 737s or larger, unlike the last time the Bears went to the Super Bowl in Miami in 2007, when AA swapped out some 757s for 763s on ORD-MIA.

Quoting catiii (Reply 1): Any response from USAir, AA, Frontier?
US added a flight from DFW-PIT on February 4 with a return from PIT-DFW on February 7. I suspect they didn't add anything out of GRB because they don't have a station there.

I noticed they upgauged the 7:20am DTW-DFW-MSP flight on Monday morning 2/7 from the usual E-175 to an A319, to add additional seats outbound DFW-MSP on 2/7
They also upgauged the first DFW-DTW flight on Monday morning from a CR7 to an A320 as well.

NW regularly brought widebodies in MKE for year. The DC-10 was a common sight at MKE for years, and it also used to see the 753 on a regular basis.
As for the 1am departure, its meant for people to fly home directly after the end of the Super Bowl, thus not having to pay for another night at a hotel.

Game tickets run $4,000 or more. I took DL charters to/from the SB in Glendale AZ from BOS in 1/2008. I purchased a Y fare, but what was interesting was that this particular Y fare was nonrefundable and with change penalties!

correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems perfectly normal.
these flights aren't charter flights unless someone is contracting the entire flight segment.
seems as if these flights are just normal commercial flights with significantly increased capacity from the norm.
if this is the case then I see no reason why it wouldn't be nonrefundable and have change fees.

Y-class fares are usually the fully refundable and changeable tickets...lower buckets in coach are not.

Booking class Y fares perhaps, but really all of coach is referred to as Y and has different booking codes within it (T, Y, R, Q, etc), so hence the confusion.
Window seats may be over-rated, but I'll take a window seat on a DC9 anyday

This has happened year after year with super bowl and delta, last year I believe when it was in Miami every flight out the next Monday was a 767 out of KFLL and three 767 out of KMIA.

That's if you actually want to see the game with your own eyes. If you're happy enough standing up the entire time and hearing the noise, you need only shell out $200 to watch the game on giant screens from the parking lot, you even get your own dedicated concession stands. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is a master at parting sucke, I mean die-hard fans from their money.

The fares for that BOS-PHX run were all true Y fares (not B/M/H/Q/K/L/U/T). Also, they did not run advance upgrades on that flight if memory serves correctly; all upgrades were gate-only.

A truly dedicated NFL fan would totally do that, as this is probably not so much money compared to a Superbowl ticket...
DL would send 767s to GRB/MKE/MSN and probably fill them up, even at that price. I guess the CRJ 900 at GRB has to do with crew positioning since this airport is obviously all RJ.

WN has also added service from MKE and PIT to DAL before and after the game. Don't have the exact schedules yet.

26 MKENut: You are correct.... WN is adding 2 extra one-stop flights to DAL from PIT and MKE. http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/a...irlines-gear-up-for-getting
27 kgrb: I was on a few of those flights. MKE, at one time, was a huge NW station. DL, on the other hand, had a respectable operation there (pre merger), but
28 KarlB737: I wonder if these flights got off on time or at all in light of the unplanned weather.
29 usairways787: FL have 8 charters to ATL, and MKE alone, tomorrow morning 2-7. Today we brought in the Falcons owner and staff today, they'll be flying out tonight o
30 71Zulu: Packers flew a DL 333, Steelers a US 321.
