KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the undisputed oldest still existing airline in the world. Founded in 1919.

No reason why I chose them other than it being the simple truth.

Matt D is correct. It is KLM. Conceived in 1919. Regards.

KLM is the oldest airline flying under its original name. The oldest overall is Avianca though which began under another name 1 year earlier, in 1918. KLM first formed in 1919.

Qantas is third oldest Avianca and KLM are older. Which one is older is up for debate, it depends on how you decide when the airline was formed. The answer could be based on when the airlines hired their first employee or when their inaugural flight took place. Anyone on the board born in the early 1900s that could maybe provide a little insight? (I'm neutral on this issue of which one is really older.)

I dont see the airline BWIA West Indies of Trinidad and Tobago which has bee servicing the Caribbean for 60 years. It was establish in November 1940 and itts new livery was i 60 year old make over. It was first called British West Indian Airways. For more than 55 years it operated at a loss and for the last 2-3 years it has operated at a profit. It also has one of he best saftey records in the world. The airline pilots are known to only fly when hey are sure the aircraft is working and this caused many delays hence the airline earned the name "Better Walk If Able" or "But Will It Arrrive". I has remmeded that problem with its 6 state of the art 737 800.

Formed in 1940 it has one of the best saftey record the hasn't be a crash for over 20 years. It operates a 13 plane fleet made up 2 L1011 TriStar 500 ( the other 2 were retired due to mechanical problems) 4 MD 83s 6 new 737-800 and 3 Dash 8 300 Quiet Series which they realy are

Chalks like to claim they are, but they weren't even an airline until the late 1950's. Until then they were an ad hoc taxi carrier. The longest continually operated airlines are KLM and Qantas - despite the claim for Avianca, they ceased service for a short period then started again under a different name.

If you count name changes: Lufthansa´s forerunner "Deutsche Luft-Reederei" was founded in 1917 - their crane trademark is Lufthansa´s logo until today.

Finnair was founded in 1923 but at that time their name was Aero O/Y (hence the IATA designator, AY). I know it's not the oldest, but it's up there.
