Case closed. The call was made by a woman trying to stop the travel of her boyfriend
The flight will depart tomorrow morning, and the smart lady at the same time will be in court.

I've heard of several incidents like this, predominately phoned in by women, and I'm sure there are more which go unreported. I guess one person flying away is often the last act of a couple breaking up, so it's the final point at which one can do 'something'; either a last ditch attempt to stop them in the hope of somehow reclaiming their relationship, or a parting act of spite and vengeance. Although getting yourself arrested surely can't help things?!

I guess the pax get put in hotels (300 pax aprox?), given food vouchers, missed connections (further hotel stay in MAD), etc. Iberia will have to pay for this. Independently of how much this woman ends up having to pay, will Iberia get to see any of that money? If she has no funds or goes to jail, can Iberia claim this to the Chilean government?

Not the first time here in Chile, but not common, maybe one every four or five years, don't even remember the last before this one. She was in court today, she must sign every two weeks in the local police station during the investigation and can't leave the country. And yes, it is serious, she caused panic in the terminal, a very big headache to more than 300 innocent passengers, and economic damage to the airline for sure. She deserves a severe punishment.

The pax flying business were relocated yesterday in other flights ( don't know the airline, probably LAN or some flight with connection in EZE or LIM ). The pax flying Y stay until today in SCL when they finally took off. And yes, IB pay for everything.

Hardly. But I'm not so sure ( are there IATA regulations for this situations ??? ). It is difficult to blame the Chilean government since the airport ( which is private BTW ) just followed the safety procedures for a bomb threat and the bomb squad was only doing its job.

The news reports the likely "sentence" to be 61 days in the big house. I'm not sure what would happen in the US but probably some form of water boarding with live electrical leads in the mix.

I'll venture a guess that guy got some last night.

And today Iberia told the press how much the stupidity of this woman will cost to the airline : 62.000 USD, spending in hotels, meals and transport.

I really hope she will be sentenced to pay every cent of that money.

I hope so too, but she won't pay even 1% of that... I hope she goes to jail for a while anyway.

Could Iberia take the measure of banning this woman from traveling with them?

The sad true is, you are correct, she won't pay the money, and with the moronic laws in this country is almost 100% sure she never goes to jail either ( Moronic law = you say a police " YOU'RE UGLY!! " in a protest against something, you can get three years in jail... but you threat with blowing up an airliner, causing panic in the airport, evac of 300 people, 60K USD in damage... no problem...you get a MAXIMUM of 541 days in jail, so in other words ( since the jails are full ) you can change this for some "community service", and the punishment is basically ZERO ).

About the banning, the logic action is YES, and not only her, the boyfriend too ( The idiot is claiming to IB he wants the money of the ticket back         )

The only consolation we can have, the couple of idiots are being fried in the social networks like ( Fbook and Twitr ) and apparently both will stay jobless for a while after this "special number" they did.
