I was just at the Airport this afternoon and I was walking to the terminal and over across the Tarmac at the private airport there was a German Luftwaffe 707. I was totally shcoked when I saw this. I was sondering if anyone had any info on this aircraft. I don't have any numbers on this. but I will try to get out there again this evening so I hop that it doesn't take off before I get there. I would realy like to hear this beast take off as well I bet it is really loud!!

The Luftwaffe still operates two 707s, in a VIP/transport role. I have no firm idea what they were doing there, but I know that both the RAF and Luftwaffe do Tornado training in Canada. This is from an airbase on the mainland (the name of which escapes me now, but could it be Goose Bay?). I know this is quite a way from St. John's, but I would guess that the 707 had something to do with this, perhaps flying logistical and support staff and perhaps spares between Germany and Canada. It might have had a technical problem and had to divert, or is there an exercise planned in or around Newfoundland?

I was out on the ramp last night looking at the 707. The numbers on the plane were 10 30. August Euler was near the front doors on both sides of the plane. Also, there was a big 30 written on the tail along with some German words ( I can't read German so I don't know what it said). There have been a few Luftwaffe aircraft in St. John's before. There was an Airbus A310-300 here a few years ago. As to what they are doing here, I have no info on that. St. John's is a major stopover point for the German Airforce as well as Americans, Canadians, French and other forces.

I saw a Luftwaffe 707 at YWG about a month ago. The aircraft seen at YYT was probably diverted due to some problem or for fuel while en route to or from Winnipeg. As was mentioned, the Luftwaffe flies here to supply their army training at Shilo, which is about 150km west of Winnipeg.
