DL- Any Nonstops From MEM Not From ATL?

The MEM hub seems kind of redundant. Are there any flights that MEM has that ATL doesn't?

Listen Betty, don't start up with your 'White Zone' s*** again.

Dallas-Love
Amarillo
Lubbock
McAllen (switching to Atlanta soon though)
Ft. Smith
Hattiesburg
Tupelo

McAllen is the only airport that gets more than a Saab or a CRJ-200 and is gone to ATL in a week and a half.

We can add Greenville, MS (GLH) as MEM only.

My hometown   I wish this would switch to ATL, but I fear this will be dropped instead.
The problem is, there are 4 airports within 2-2.5 hrs drive. JAN, MEM, MLU, LIT.

I don't know, we don't see DL abandoning domestic markets that much anymore. But in the South, I can't imagine them abandoning GLH. If it was a remote location in the Midwest, Far West or Southwest - maybe.

With the Saab leaving the fleet though, that might change. GLH-MEM is 2x Saab 340, so they might not be able to support 2x CRJ and the costs to operate a station for a daily CRJ might be prohibitive versus the revenue.

Well, they replaced the SAABs here in FSM with RJs and it seems to work pretty well. Of course, DL had FSM-ATL service with RJs before the merger.

Actually, DL could do worse than building up MEM. ATL is a nightmare w/o any problem at all. And MEM has some nice points as an connection airport:

Good SC
Good places to eat (BBQ esp.)
Not many weather issues (as they have fewer flights than ATL)
Easy connectivity

I think as CVG basically closes down, MEM could be a bit more than a reliever airport.

Can I have a mojito on this flight?

Not exactly... Theres a max 3 flights a day to any one station, except for the hubs. This means if your flight is delayed for some reason, and you miss your connection, you're stuck in a completely abandoned MEM for 4-5 hours. Ever been to MEM between DL's 3 hub banks? Its deserted. ATL, on the other hand, is a rolling hub, and other than the above mentioned stations has more flights to each destination than MEM - in almost all cases. I'm not arguing that MEM is a good hub - I liked it, besides the fact that the above scenario is what screwed me over... but connectivity is not its strongest point at all.

In my case i was flying LAX-MEM-MKE, flight attendant at LAX didnt show up so the flight was delayed from 0140 to about 0350, and we arrived after the first of the three banks had already left. my options were to wait 4 hours for the next flight to MKE - or take an extra flight via ATL, both getting me to MKE within 30 mins of each other.

Also - what do you mean by "SC" ?

Happened to me once - my flight to MEM was on time, but my MEM-TPA flight got cancelled...so I got stuck there for about 5 hours waiting for the next scheduled flight. And connecting via ATL would've gotten me there at about the same time so I naturally declined and opted for the next nonstop to TPA.

This was about a year ago when the DL logo was just starting to appear on NW's aircraft. And, yes, MEM was indeed deserted in between the banks as you described. I had always liked MEM until that experience took my admiration down a notch (and just a notch...I still like MEM but I'm more wary now).

You're absolutely right...at the same time, if I fly via ATL, I am almost guaranteed an RJ-free trip in the markets I fly. Not so with MEM.

Sky Club

I agree -- MEM is pretty bank heavy. But it was PMNW also. But ever been to ATL once a storm hits? NIGHTMARE. MEM tends to have fewer issues in that way, at least in my experience.

I'd see an ERJ as an adequate replacement.

Doesn't DL do their repaints in GLH?

Yes, so technically they do fly ATL-GLH, but not with passengers.
