We all know about CX finally coming to ORD, but what other service is in the pipeline for ORD? I recently looked at wikipedia and noticed Icelandair service to Reykjavik starting June 10 and CO to ANC June 9th.

Well the service to Reykjavik is actually on Iceland Express, a LCC competing against Icelandair.

Based on the airline's website, they plan on running summer seasonal service on ORD-KEF 1x/week in addition to BOS-KEF 4x/week and EWR-KEF daily.

Quoting WROORD (Thread starter):
CO to ANC June 9th.

Technically a resumption. UA keeps officially dropping ANC service, but has still flown up there n/s from ORD every season (IIRC) for over 10 years now.

Along those same lines, CO will also be starting (resuming) FLL and PBI on behalf of UA. The airline hasn't flown either of those for over 2 years!

NK begins ORD-LAX on April 1st. Finally some much needed competition on the route!

Also, don't forget about AA's new ORD-HEL route!

I would keep your eyes open for more new routes out of ORD as the UA/CO merger progresses. Domestically they could do a bit more stuff from ORD to CO stations throughout the South (including Florida and DAL), and internationally they could do more to Latin America (especially Mexico), the Caribbean, and Europe!

Should B6 move over to the L gates, I could see them adding some flights. Florida and SJU would be logical additions, or even stuff like OAK and BUR that nobody flies from ORD.

We all know VX wants to get in, and I daresay the likes of EK, QR, CM, Hainan, and others also have the airport on their radar.

Not new but KE is going to 10 flight a week to Seoul in July and CX begins service in September. I would also add more service to Asia on United in the future.

I would say Europe as well. Should be interesting to see what carrier's "network strategy" wins out. UA has largely used FRA as a main base in Europe and NRT in Asia, where as at least in Europe CO flies to a larger number of destinations rather than using a partner hub to focus on and route pax through.

I recently saw a CO 772ER on approach to ORD. Any idea what service this aircraft was on?

I don't know that either one will. In Asia, UA has increasingly been overflying NRT and balancing that with use of NRT for destinations like BKK where n/s service from the States would be unprofitable. In Europe, CO has EWR while UA has lots of history with LH. None of that changes with the merger, and we won't see ORD-BRS or IAD-OPO any time soon.

Ok, This is great. But, one question here... Where are they going to put all these new airlines? If they are haveing a hard time finding space for VX, then how are they finding space for all these other new air carriers???

Just a question

If I understand correctly, DL is sitting on at least 5 gates on the L concourse. When I taxied by a few days ago they did not look like they have been used in a while.

Also it sounds like the above posts imply DL may hand over these gates to the city.

Actually, there is plenty of room for everyone. VX could have easily started ORD by now (if they were willing to sublease from another carrier, or use T5) but are instead holding out for the city to not only provide them domestic terminal gates at low rates but also make quite a few improvements to what has become available.

Rest assured that both UA - with all of T1 and half of T2 under its control - and AA - with all but a few gates in T3 at its disposal - have plenty of room to add new flights of their own, and the international terminal (T5) has plenty of space for new foreign tenants like CX. NK is located in the underutilized L concourse of T3, and now that they have access to a second gate (thanks to the DL move) they have added new flights to ACY, LAS, and LAX. Even DL seems to have a bit of room to grow from its dumpy T2 digs these days. Should B6 move over to the old DL L gates, they'll probably get a second gate and a unique opportunity to add flights. DL or UA would probably be happy to snatch up the gate they would leave behind in T2.

I know your thread is on new service out of ORD however when you mentioned ORD-ANC service on CO, I looked up on CO website ORD-ANC and also found CO will also operate the DEN-ANC service and SFO-ANC service. I hadn't heard those routes yet. Anchorage sure will be busy this summer with extra flights. 2X SEA 1X SFO 1X DEN 1XIAH 1X ORD. It appears the PDX-ANC is no longer operating and it has been several years since EWR-ANC has operated.

Plenty of space for foreign carriers at T5. I hope MX returns soon.

I guess it could have been; I wasn't close enough to read the titles.
