Just an update - One of TAAG's 777s is in normal operation again with the airline. It is D2-TED which is flying the LAD-LIS-LAD route exclusively at the moment. Another 777, D2-TEF, is currently in GIG having some more work done after undergoing repairs in LIS. And lastly, D2-TEE is sitting in LAD still waiting to be repaired.

Hopefully this marks the end of a major fiasco for TAAG... which they somehow made it through like they always seem to do!

Sorry, I posted this in Trip Reports by accident. Mods, please move this to Civil Aviation if possible!

Two years ago, during an INAC ispection, the found B747 manual's on board and the crew were flying with a PPL licence.

By the way, i think that this airplane still has some problems. 2 days ago i was spotting in LIS and the aircraft was parked on the taxiway with open engines.

Hi,

I am still trying to trace the one I saw at GIG on 11th of December, can you confirm how long these aircraft have been parked at the airports you mention? I would love to tie it up.
Thanks.

Negative, I saw one in Rio on December 11th and would like to know which of the three I saw. I wondered if through process of elimination (if certain aircraft were parked on this date) I might be able to find out which one it was.
Any help would be most appreciated if anybody has the answer to this question!

You saw D2-TED. At the time TED was grounded at GIG, TEF at LIS and TEE at LAD. A few days ago, D2-TEF was ferried to GIG for maintenance at TAP/ME and TED returned to active duty.

D2-TEE lies at LAD propably waiting for D2-TEF to return to duty so it can be ferried to GIG for repairs.

Please insert a "smart" joke here.

This is the first time I've heard this, but it was reasons like these that TAAG was banned from the EU in 2007. They have since resolved these problems, and have just passed IATA inspections again. The preliminary report regarding the LIS incident in early December said the pilots were completely certified to fly the plane, and that TAAG had not been skipping maintenance checks.

Yes that was the main reason that TAAG was banned. How can pilots fly B777 with B747 manuals? Incredible.

Rumors are now circulating that the 777 is back on the ground in Luanda because INAVIC has forbade TAAG from operating more 777 flights until some required inspection is done. Why this wasn't done the other day is a mystery to me.

Indeed, that's practically criminal!

But they probably can use them to GIG and GRU , right ?

New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

Not sure what you are saying, the 777 will be flying again to LIS tomorrow. INAVIC is Angola's CAA which grounded the plane until the inspection gets done.

However on another note, TAAG's 777s cannot actually fly passenger service to GIG and GRU because INAVIC also revoked their ETOPS certification.
