I been noticing all white Con Air flights into PDX. The strange thing is the aircraft types. I been seeing Saab 2000's and Dornier 328JET's. I never seen these two types on the West coast flying for an airline. They been coming in almost daily. Who flys these aircraft?

Is there a lot of hard core criminal activity around PDX?

They could be going to the federal prison in Sheridan. But with planes that small, they could land closer in Salem or McMinnville.

JPATS has two somewhat separate missions.

Prisoner Transport and Illegal Alien Deportation

The real hardcore, high risk prisoners get transported one to an aircraft in a Beech King Air or a small biz jet. The medium to low risk prisoners get transported in groups.

The Illegal Alien transport is not as tight and usually in fair sized groups.

Has there been an increase in ICE activity in northern Oregon/ southern Washington lately? That could have added the need for more capacity out of PDX to a consolidation point for aliens.

Or have the federal courts been more active with trials? that could require bringing in prisoners to testify.

Some Aircraft are also used to pick up ones that are in Witness Protection and bring them to trials in other cities as well as some are sent to other cities to sit in a hotel thousands of miles away and flown back and forth for trials only but thats usually in high profile cases where the Gov has a lot of money tied up in the prosecution of a criminal

i can see for 80 miles

Dornier 328JET's

Boeing has or had a one or maybe a few of these running around the Northwest for support of the 787-8/747-8 programs. I saw them frequently at Boeing Field BFI.
