I have noticed that EK flies a ULH aircrafts to destinations which are supposed to be flown by medium/long range a/c.
DXB - DAR A345
DXB - HAM A345
DXB - IST 77L
DXB - AMS 77L
They could use A332 , A343, 772, 773 to all of those medium/long range routes. the only logical explanations to me would be:
1- Shortage of aircrafts.
2- Marketing their new products. DXB - JED on A380 for example

The short-range routes operated by the 77L are to fill downtime between ULH sectors.
The medium-range routes operated by the 345 are there because the 77L and 77W have better economics on most of the long routes. The amazing thing is that the 77W beats the A345 on (for example) DXB-SFO even when it suffers a weight restriction.
