The proposed DEL - MEL schedule is

AI 312 DEL - MEL 1405 0730+1
AI 311 MEL - DEL 2145 0420+1

This would enable good connections to LHR both ways.

LHR-DEL schedule, for one of the AI flight, is as follows:
LHR-DEL 9:30 pm 11:15 am
DEL-LHR 7:25 am 11:30 am

It should work with no more than 3 hours transit time both ways.

Jusdt as 9W and IT were looking at expanding premium class sections on their aircraft after a slowdown, oh well. And with domestic flying increasing, the government should be able to raise almost Rs 300-350 crore from the economy class tariff alone and hopefully they will invest the money back into the sector

Mutiny brews against AI boss, pilots threaten strike in a week

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/b...-in-a-week/articleshow/7606556.cms

Quote:
The removal of Air India's three new expensive hires, including two chief operating officers (COOs), is proving to be the Maharaja's Egyptian uprising that's triggering other revolts against the management. In an unprecedented move, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) on Tuesday barred its members from flying with a captain — either as a passenger or commander — who's officer on special duty (OSD) to chairman and managing director (CMD) Arvind Jadhav.

Accusing Captain Sandeep Marwaha of "working against the community," the union of pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines (ICPA) directed pilots not to "undertake any flight, travel (as) staff on leave, staff on duty or additional crew member or accept him on your flight."

ICPA sources alleged that Marwaha, by virtue of being a member of the association, used to attend meetings and pass on information to the management based on which decisions detrimental to their interests were taken. The union has given a notice to go on strike from next Wednesday over issues like pay disparity with AI counterparts.

Interesting article on reasons behind Indigo's success.
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/n...dia-the-innovation-indigo-airlines

Quote:
The key innovation was simple. Like Tata Motors did with the Nano, Indigo leveraged India's huge potential market to form a cost-cutting partnership with suppliers — Airbus, in this case — thus reducing its cost of operations before it sold its first ticket. In 2005, when other low-cost carriers were working with older, leased aircraft and battling a reputation for inferior service, Indigo inked a deal to buy 100 new A-320 jets from Airbus, purchasing at volume to ensure a lower price and a partnership-type commitment on maintenance.

The savvy purchase helped IndiGo rocket up the ladder to the No. 2 position in India by market share (18.6 percent) this January, after only five years of operations. And the company has already signed another huge deal — a record-setting, $15.6 billion purchase of 180 more passenger jets from Airbus — that promises to allow it to leverage those same strengths when it starts international service this summer with flights to Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai and Muscat.

Since 2008, when the company booked its first profit even as high fuel prices and the economic downturn ravaged its competitors, IndiGo's net income has grown more than five times — from a shade under $20 million to more than $120 million.

And the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation reckons it is one of the hottest airlines to watch in 2011, saying, "Airports in the Indian subcontinent, Gulf and Southeast Asia take note: IndiGo is coming."

Got a nice look at the extension to the international terminal being built at BOM looks quite nice, but is hardly a solution to the massive traffic at the airport flying IT 316 in from DEL we had a one-hour hold over Thane at 2300 hrs on the 9th. Yesterday - the 11th, coming in on IT 3160 from BHJ the plane circled out over the sea for twenty minutes.
And I'm amazed that DEL rwy 29 has issues with a Shiv Murti that is a few feet high, an approach into BOM on rwy 14 is the closest most people will come to a Kai Tak approach nowadays. You can see people in the flats at Lokhandwala and Andheri! Pretty scary and impressive at the same time.

Haha...I landed on Rwy 27 last October, when Navrati was in full swing and could clearly make out people playing "Garba" just seconds before touchdown......

On the 14 approach, you would be too high when flying over Lokhandwala....but you are pretty low when flying over Andheri (W) and (E), close to the raliway line......not surprised if you can see people on the ground.....very busy area....
