Hi everyone. I have a question. Does anyone know about the airport in Wilmington, Ohio, that is owned by a major Courier company? I flew to it back in 1990, in the jump seat of a DA-20 Falcon. The falcon was delivering freight for Purolator Courier, however, I don't remember if Purolator owned the airport or not. I was told that this airport used to be a Military Air Base, and was sold to the Courier company for the purpose of being their main distribution hub. I feel that the owner could have been Airborne Express. I do remember a lot of DC-8's, B-707's and I believe DC-9's on the ramp, painted in a Red, White and Black colour scheme....but, I'm just not sure.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi again. I think I have answered my own question. I should have searched the photo database first....oh well! I'm tired today.

I remember it as an AFB growing up in Ohio, tho not real near there, but cannot remember the name of the base tonite. But, I do believe it was declared "surplus" and sold/leased via the county or State of Ohio. Perhaps someone in the Dayton,Columbus, Cincinnati area remembers.

Airborne Express purchased the old Clinton County AFB outside of Wilmington back in the late 70's.
