UA/CO To Concourse G In Miami

As of 3/15/2011 UA together with CO will move into Concourse G in MIA. UA will leave Concourse J and CO Concourse H. CO's ticket counter will stay where it is now and UA will be relocating theirs to the same location. Supposedly this will be temporary for 8 months. Then the operation will move to Concourse J, with the ticket counters still remaining in the same location.

Wow, that came as a surprise! What a downgrade , even if it is a temporary situation!! The South Terminal is a almost brand new facilities, beautiful inside and outside, Concourse G, well it is almost empty now, a OUTDATED, yes outdated with capital letters!!! IMHO maybe this was the only way the could consolidate UA/CO operations in a single Concourse, until all the OneWorld airlines operating from J move to the North Terminal.

This should please TACA and TAM which have swallowed a good part of J and are crowding everyone else (when will USAir fly the coup?).

CO flights already use G occasionally, and CO Connection (3M) is already stationed there. I assume someone is moving? Perhaps AeroSur which seems to dock in every concourse at some time or other.

The ticket hall is set up in such a way as to (theoretically) change airline ticketing locations at a moments notice -- plenty of unused space as international carriers come and go.

It all sounds like a positive for CO/UA.

Wow, this is news. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it seems like there is plenty of extra space in Concourse H...Could they not handle United's like 5 flights a day at MIA?!

Good. They belong in H or J, not G. I assume this means LAN will be leaving J soon.

So the permanent United ticket counters will be where Continental's ticket counters currently are?

Also, does anybody know if United or US Airways actually connect passengers in Miami onto other Star carriers? I sometimes think that both should operate out of Concourse H and Air France, Alitalia, etc from Concourse J. I know they are separate alliances but practically speaking both are connected airside, and J seems much more geared for international flights.

Replacing the 1940s-looking art-deco carpeting and replacing the 70's paint-scheme should do wonders.

Well, I guess that Co/UA would want to stay closer to its new alliance members AV/TA, and LA to AA.

Just in time for the AV/TA and CM memebership into *A comes into effect. I think is a good move for the airlines and the alliance.

Now I'm wondering, what terminal does Cm uses?? J??

According to the OP-- no.

But it's simply a matter of pulling cables and moving kiosks.

If I have to choose I will locate the new United (permanent location) where the current United counters are!

And at MIA it is easier than pulling the cables and moving the kiosks, check in kiosk are own by the airport not by a single airline, so any airline can just move to the next kiosk and log in into their network, and set up the screen on the wall to your airline name, so in theory is just moving their employees to the next counter

Amazing...G was supposed to:
1 not have any new tenants/construction/expansion
2 be torn down
due to fire safety issues years ago.....

Wonder if there are construction/remodeling issues for the 380/turning H in customs capable/ or other issues ??

Avianca also swallows up lots of J with its 5 flights in teh noon to early afternoon.

Like I said, they should really be flexible between H & J. No reason why they can't spread things out more evenly.

That's why it is only a temporary move until Nov. By that time LAN should have moved in with AA, making room for the combined UA/CO. Gulfstream will cease all ops at MIA on 4/4, which leaves UA/CO as the only major tenant at G.
What happens to the Concourse after Nov. is anybody's guess.

That will be a bit of a walk from the CO counters current mid-point location between G & H to the actual gates in J. Not to mention that the J ticketing hall is much nicer. Seems a bit odd to me but it must be a cost saving measure.

Quoting kgaiflyer (Reply 2):

Not entirely, see above. I also think that H is nicer (brighter and wider) than J which is dark, gray and somewhat depressing. J's design should've never been approved - it's out of character with MIA's newer concourses. It's unfortunate that J, not H, is the *A concourse.

The funny thing is that the current carpeting and paint was done sometime in the 2000s (or late 90s). It's not really that old, just horrible lol.

Are the others all charters?

It's still unclear to me from the original post whether the permanent counters will be where CO's counters are now (between G & H) or where United's are now (in J).
