Since I don't see the topic already covered:
The unions of AENA have voted in favor of a strike that will probably cripple air traffic on the peninsula to protest against the privatization of AENA which operates all Spanish airports. A very valid point I shall say, but why they're out hurting their fellow customers during the crucial peak period of semana santa (holy week) is beyond me.

Dates are: 20, 21, 24, 25 and 30 of april; 2, 14, 15, 19 and 20 of may; 13, 23 and 30 of june and 1, 2, 3, 4, 15 and 31 of july.
I have adjusted my travel plans accordingly although I now have a 06:30am flight

Well, difficult to say what will happen. Both the ministry of transport and the unions today expressed their intention to negotiate and eventually avoid the strike. However, the current government kind of got used to find itself between a rock and a hard place...

If I were you I'd monitor the situation and prepare a contingency plan during the first week of June.

Oh the wonders of Spain and our people...

Trying to make other people's lives miserable is part of being Spanish....seriously. And you know what's the funniest part of all this? Spaniards are proud of being like that while calling it "being free and modern"!!! Yes, I am Spanish, born, raised and currently living in this country, but this is precisely one of the things that sometimes make me wish I was born somewhere else.

This applies to practically every aspect of our daily living. Then people wonders what's wrong with the "customer service culture" in Spain.

The protest is against the government (I wish the worst for zapatero and his disgraceful gang), but the ones that will have to suffer the consequences are the passengers and the airlines, and the bigger the damage, the better...according to the protesters.

Just remember what happened only a few months ago with ATC controllers and the dates they carefully selected in order to cause the biggest possible chaos and damage to the public.

I just hope for the least amount of innocent passengers/customers to be affected by this.

As AENA also governs ATC they are part of this again, aren't they?

I'm supposed to fly to MAD on May 21 might be one interesting trip.
And next year will be even more interesting with the PP winning the elections which means the "Socialists" will sell AENA and the PP will decide who will be the winning bidder. Just imagine Ferrovial managing Barajas the way the do LHR

There is no strike planned for the date of your flight - you shouldn't worry.

Guess who is booked to fly UK-Malaga two consecutive weekends, 21Apr-25Apr and again on 29-Apr-02May. Yup! That's 3 out of 4 flights possibly disrupted.

Well.. Although I'm now living in the UK, I was born and I lived in Spain too... Personally, I think this statement goes a bit too far.

Well, sorry to bring this thread back up, but there is indeed a strike planned for June 13.
