Hi everyone! I'm new here but I've been lurking around for a few years and finally decided to get a membership so this will be my first post to any of the forums here. I just recently moved back to my hometown of PNS from FTL. Much has changed in terms of airline service here since I left in 1990. Back then we had both EA and DL to ATL, US to CLT and MCO, and CO to IAH. We've gone from a handful of flights a day to almost a hundred when you count both departures and arrivals on both mainline and regional metal. My question here is what new service could PNS support? Are there any carriers that could start service here and be successful or is this market about saturated. I've heard that US would like to start service to DCA but that all depends on the DL/US route swap and I'm also curious as to what's happening on that front if anyone knows. I'm also wondering what will happen when SW completes its merger with FL.
Personally I believe that PNS is a great little airport with pretty good service for a city this size. The military helps as well as tourism, the beaches and all. I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the above questions and your thoughts in general of our airport.

Maybe some UAX to DEN. At about 120 O&D passengers between the two cities per day, and about 1180 miles distance, wouldn't be that much of a stretch for the new UA/CO to initiate nonstop service here.
edit added: with average fares ranging from $120 to $160.
