A beautiful Monarch A300-600 just took off from LAS destined to MCI.
This is way off the beaten path for this aircraft. Anybody know why it was here?

It was a military charter that arrived on Tuesday 3/8/11 from IND and left this morning on its way to MCI.

It was at A-20. Currently a closed gate.

Darn, something in my gut kept telling me to go over to the MGM garage yesterday. I bet I could have gotten a decent shot of it from the top of the garage. That's what I get for not listening to my gut.

Saw it Wednesday morning and was wondering the same. For some reason I was thinking an A330, granted it was a quarter to six in the morning and I was half asleep when we taxied by.

Was it carrying US troops? Seems odd for a non-US carrier to be used for US troop transport.

By the way, what is going on with 25R/7L? Any idea when that runway will re-open?

25R/7L is getting the RWSL system installed.... here is some info http://rwsl.ll.mit.edu/index.html.

I'm hearing it will be closed for 2-3 more weeks but don't have confirmation on that... merely what I heard ATC say to a pilot that asked.

I love the versatility of ZB's A300's!

One minute they are operating 2 hr sectors from the UK to Spain to 6hr sectors shuttling Brits on their holiday to Egypt and also standing in for A330's when they go tech to places like Cancun and Sanford Orlando.

Also this time of year, when demand is low, we see them on charters like this.

I love the livery and seeing them drop into there hometown airport LTN, and maximizes the full potential of its 7000ft runway!

Im not sure the US troops will appreciate the high capacity 360+ seat UK airline charter config and 9 across seating!

Anyone know which it is and how long, its statewide for?

Were there two Monarch A300's to LAS on Tuesday? Because one of their A300's also made a tech stop at PSM en-route to LAS from RAF Brize Norton on Tuesday.

On March 10th of last year, a Monarch A300 also transited through PSM to LAS from England. It made two roundtrips over two days. There was a thread started about it at the time as well. Link below.

It's more likely carrying RAF troops for training at Nellis AFB and the surrounding installations? Lot's of foreign air force personnel come to the USA for training.

25R/7L is scheduled to reopen on Friday March 18 give or take a few days. The 19's will then be next. Those will not start until May.

No there was only 1 of them here.

You are correct it was RAF troop’s going to Nellis.

I was wondering why my flight the other day took off from the 19s as opposed to the 25s. The only other time I've been on a flight out of LAS that took off from the 19s was a few years back when they were redoing the 25s. I know they were using the 19s for landings a few of the days I was out there, as I spent a few days at the Trop (Not in the Island Tower, which faces the 19s.) and from my room, you could somewhat see the planes coming in from the north.

Some of the US airlines that operate MD-11s and DC-10s for troop charters have high density layouts for those a/c

WO has previously had some of their MD-11s configured to be an all-coach 3-4-3 layout of 410 seats.

I don't think the US troops get a choice of which airline they fly with or what config they get lol

The aircraft is never full on these type of flights from my experiences. The troops are normally more pre-ocupied thinking about what lies ahead.

Ive heard people say the system will be installed on 25l/7R but that runway will not be shut down. How will they install the system without shutting the runway down?

It will not be installed on that runway 25L/7R. The FAA decided that since there is no cross traffic it is not necessary.
