Very Very Sad Wataniya Airways from Kuwait has announced that it has ceased all its flights and will go through the process of determining the airlines future. I've always said that they have started the airline in a very difficult time of financial crisis and thats the penalty....Most people believed that they will continue to grow quickly and eventually even take over Kuwait Airways which is supposed to be fully privatized this 26th of March....

I feel sorry for all staff working there and wish them all the best of luck....

"Dear Guest,
We would like to inform you that, starting March 16th, Wataniya Airways has ceased all its operations and will now enter a process to determine the future of the company. In the meantime, no flights will operate. Unfortunately, the company is not in a position to offer alternative flights to you. We regret that matters have reached this juncture and deeply apologize for the inconvenience it has caused."

Maxjet, Eos, Silverjet, l'Avion... Wataniya...
Each of them was a very interesting (and quite ambitious) project - "business class only" airline - but none of them was able to find success...

Oasis had economy-class, I think... (Those in the list were strictly "business class only" airlines).

L'Avion was just intergrated with Openskies so that doesnt count....? Does it?

Privat Air is still doing alright for itself by operating for LH/KL etc? Though they have a small economy cabin on their flights.

But the airline only offered Business and Premium Economy on their flights and all the same time being an LCC?...I think not.

Well... Technically, we can probably call British Air their savior (sort of)...
But, I doubt that, if not for BA, l'Avion would still be around on its own these days.
The point is that the "business class only" model hasn't seen that much of success as of now, and has yet to prove that it can be sustainable.

Definitely not LCC,

Indeed. In addition to its premium cabins, it also served a premium terminal.

Wataniya was not a low-cost airline. It always makes me laugh how quickly people are to assign LCC to any type of airline nowadays. I would argue that most so-called low-cost airlines are actually hybrids vis-a-vis the pure model.

Few airlines have a chance fighting in a region with so much over capacity and government ties. The airline was dead on arrival.

They do say though on their website that:
"Our friends at Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways have thankfully offered to help bring back our stranded guests to Kuwait on their flights based on seat availability. All you need to do is approach Kuwait Airways or Jazeera Airways counter with a printed copy of your ticket for them to arrange your departure."

I'm surprised by this, they are an LCC with a host of flights to India - what they don't have in yields they should be able to make up in CASM and loads?

Shame about Wataniya, I flew them once and they really did have an exclusive feel to them, almost like flying a corporate aircraft - that said, Business was empty and Economy had 14 passengers on the flight...

Jazeera suspended flights to India some time ago, i think after the UAE authorities requested it to close its secondary hub at DXB.

They suspended flights to India almost 2 years ago.
