Maybe a glitch, but the activity log below says that it was an A380 on March 16th as well.
The DL website is showing it as a B772.
On the other hand, my assumption is AF may be using the A380 on this route istead of sending it to NRT, although I am not sure if there are any changes on the CDG-NRT route due to the current conditions in Japan.

Supposedly one of the gates at A 20 and A 22 is raised up as if a A380 will be parking there. They are also the only gates currently at IAD that can handle the A380.... Just want to see if I want to make the trip out to take a look

They are bringing a second A380 (replacing a 777) into JFK for at least Sunday/Monday due to conditions in Japan. I don't know what you actually ended up with at IAD, but it is possible it was an A380 for the same reason.
