F I N A L L Y! I wonder why it took so long for them to announce KBL. I am also eager to see if they add more secondary cities in other parts of the Mid East. The E-Jets give them an unique aircraft to handle these. One thing surprising has been the lack of expansion to CIS.

Quoting IndianicWorld (Reply 2): Given the current state of internal issues that Bahrain has, I am surprised they are announcing anything.
War zone to War zone traffic
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

GF in particular? or would this enthusiasm apply to any Gulf flag carrier if they were starting KBL, I would have expected Saudia to be the first, ofcourse originally it was meant to be Qatar Airways in 2004.
Seriously? Well... Red Cross, United Nations, diplomatic traffic, afghan vfr traffic which does exist, private security companies, hmmm quite a bit more!

Afghanistan also has a very large and disgruntled Shia population, the reason why GF have suspended Beriut and the other places is the same.
BEY is 40% Christian with the Muslim populace mainly Sunni if I'm not mistaken, so if they felt unwelcome there due to the minority Shia angst, KBL seems bizarre to fly to.

Non governmental organizations = NGO
Though there is a decent shia minority in Afghanistan, it is not as in Bahrain where much of the government is Sunni and the people are mostly Shia. I would say though its not about picking up ethnic/religious sect traffic, more so actually connecting traffic internationally....
Safi once had the non stop to FRA, but connects people through DXB today. With FlyDubai helping to put more bums onto Emirates flights, I would say GF just wants a bit of the action!
