If 9W join sky expect an India [mostly BOM] -NRT flight from 9W immediately in order to tap into DL hub at NRT for west coast connections
That's not a practical connection. 9W will not be able to do the turnaround in a 24 hour time frame (or a 48 hour frame in case 9W extends NRT to USA).
If you look at the DL timings, the 4 major DL flights (SEA, LAX, SFO, PDX) from USA arrive at 1630 hrs (1625, 1635, 1635, 1655) and departs to the US at 1530 hrs - ish (1530, 1530, 1540, 1540). So if we have a sample 9W flight which will try to connect to NRT:
The aircraft utilization will go for a toss. However a dedicated BOM - NRT flight is definitely on the cards, but not with the intent of any connection beyond NRT.
For connections to west coast I recommend 9W to forge a relationship with KE whose 3 weekly flights to BOM are unknown to many. KE can do BOM - ICN and 9W can do DEL - ICN thus getting good feed to KE's network. Parallely even Air India can forge a similar relationship with OZ and with such a proposal the govt. of India would not have an issue with amending the age old bilateral agreement.
