According to Emirates website, DXB - PVG will have A380 services effective 27th April 2011. On We, Fr, Su EK 302/303 rotation will be operated by the A380. The remaining 4 days the B77W will be used and EK 304/305 will continue to be operated by the A343. On the same day DXB - HKG non stop will reduce from daily A380 to 4 weekly A380.

The reduction of capacity at HKG, is that due to bad loads? Or is it just due to lack of aircraft, and as soon as more A380's arrive, will HKG go back to double daily (and possibly PVG as well)?

I do not think EK380/381 was a planned A380 flight; or at least one that was to happen this soon.
If i am not mistaken (and please correct me if i am wrong), EK380/381 was switched to A380 service only because of the delays with China approving EK's A380 schedules (first to PEK and then PVG).
As it now seems that the Chinese CAA has finally given the go-ahead, it looks like this approval is based on a phased introduction of EK's A380 to PVG starting with 3 weekly. I think that once this service goes daily, EK380/381 will go back to B77W.
Cheers,
R

I have been on EK380/381 many times in the past 3 months (since Chinese New Year when they swapped in the A380). Never once was the aircraft close to full on either deck. I would give an eyeball estimate of a 40-50% load factor for all instances I was on the flight. I have always been able to get 3 seats to myself when travelling in Economy. Looking around the lounge at HKG there were only 30-40 premium passengers.
Perhaps it's not peak travel season but somehow I feel Emirates hasn't been able to crack Hong Kong.

That is absolutely correct.

But 384/385 (HKG-DXB via BKK) was, and will remain A380, right?

Good thing and about time. EK to PVG loads are bursting, especially flights 302/303. Checking possibility to fly the next 1-2 weeks, and on most flights, F and C are full, and Y overbooked by 20-30 pax! Weeks in advance!

Will PVG be ready for daily A380 soon? I would think HKG would switch back to the 77W based on comments in this thread on the load factor.

Wow! That is a definitive market waiting for the A380. Do you know where they are connecting to? (Which flights on the other side does EK need more room?)
