After all the problems, I just managed to check out the Qatar "two for one" offer.
Looked at Mnl - Lon and found the price per person is USD848 per person.
Well sorry folks, but on SQ it's USD1107 per person (USD258 difference) and I know which one I'll choose!

So ,which one? You seem to be hinting SQ. I know SQ has an excellent reputation, but I have heard nothing outrageously bad about Qatar (not like some of the stories about Emirates, for example).

Well yes, SQ. But in this case, because Qatar have been building up this promotion, and it really doesn't amount to much.
I have nothing against the airline, just disappointed that the price did not tempt me to try them - after all, surely that's the point.

It's a little cheaper, but I see what you mean. With a 2 for 1, you were expecting greater savings. Still $258 would be enough for me to take QR, assuming connections are reasonable. And although I would prefer a transfer in SIN myself, a transfer in Doha breaks up that trip nicely.

Yes, and I wouldn't quibble about the transfer times if the price is right, but as it happens, on the dates I chose (20 May,27 May) the transfer in Doha is 5hrs35 outgoing and 7 hours on the return trip.

Quoting AMSKAN49 (Reply 5): And shankly, how many times have you flown SQ and QR? (before you ask, I never tried QR ! , but I was willing to.)
Er, plenty actually. Wouldn't bother posting if I did not have the evidence
I don't use SQ any more out of LON because they are simply not competative on my major journeys.
My next trip to KUL is actually with EK. Could have been QR but the EK connections are better and include EK002 and 003...both A380's so a no brainer.
Always used to fly to KUL with Singapore (who were always more competative than MAS). But for me, my wife and son the price difference up front between EK/QR and SQ amounts to a lot of cash
