Yeah, not a great layout. I do find it funny that there are several shops just outside of security @ Concourse B, one of which is a Bath & Body Works. That definitely doesn't make sense since you can't take large bottles of soap/lotion through security.
As an aside, I have noticed that a new runway is being constructed just south of 28L/10R.

It's probably there because Limited Brands, the parent company of Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works, is based in Columbus. At one time, Limited Brands also owned The Limited, Limited Too (now Justice), Abercrombie & Fitch, Express/Express Men, and New York & Company. Express and Abercrombie, both of which are now publicly traded, are still based in Columbus as well.

They remodeled some lower-level gates on Concourse B with new seating and restrooms for Skybus several years ago, and they seemed decent when I took my first (and last) Skybus flight CMH-SWF-CMH in 2008. Like the rest of Skybus, it was pretty spartan. I'm not sure if anyone is using the B-Lower gates today.

Quoting CMHSRQ (Reply 1): That's the continuing effort of the TSA to take over the world.
Indeed. The terminal additions to which the original post refers will house the CTX machines, TSA, and a new in-line baggage system. The CTX machines and most TSA screening functions are currently located on the ticketing level, requiring passengers to haul their luggage over to the TSA once they've been checked. The addition also includes replacing most of the conveyor belts and baggage make-up areas.

Also IMHO, CMH is one of the least well laid out facilities I've been thru ......
Any kind of major remodeling likely will not happen, since the plan is to replace the current terminal once the new south runway is complete. As noticed, the current terminal is a hodge-podge of additions on to the original structure, which dates back to 1958. There have been some minor cosmetic improvements though, such as increased food and retail options and replacement of lighting fixtures and carrousels 2-5 on the baggage claim level.

More or less. Also, the retail outlet at the airport was added prior to 9/11 and the subsequent liquid restrictions. The store still does pretty brisk business though, especially from airport employees.

The former Skybus boarding area is currently blocked off and not in use.

I was going to say, I remember those stores being there in at least 2003. I watched the 2003 OSU/Michigan game on the big screen at the Big Ten store while waiting to leave for LGW.

That was actually new for Skybus. Prior to SX, there were three jetways in that area...B1 was used by ValuJet and America West, with B3 and B5 being used by TWA and, later, HP.
