I was browsing around online and I just realised that LO is no longer flying KRK-ORD/JFK/EWR?! What's up with that? I always thought that at least KRK-ORD was a good route for them. And it looks like RZE-JFK/EWR got cut as well? Are they making these cuts because of some kind of shortage of 767s? I came across this picture of LPF and apparently its been returned to the lessor.

I sure hope these changes are only temporary.

Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

Probably high oil prices and a passengers that consist mainly of relatively low yielding VFR traffic.

Why do Aerospace Engineering students have to turn things in on time?

True, but they just started WAW-HAN a few months ago. I just never would have thought that LO would choose Vietnam over Chicago/New York.

Eliminating non-WAW routes is part of LOT's strategy to streamline its operations and build a stronger hub in WAW, at the cost of stronger non-hub markets, of course. However, according to LO, ORD-WAW was not profitable towards the end (10/2010) and, in fact, lost approximately 12 mln PLN ($4 million) in 2010 so the decision was in a large part financial as well. Sad, I don't expect this route to return... at least not until LOT acquires more longhaul aircraft (cough, 787, cough).

Interestingly, Air Italy Polska will be stepping in and offering KRK-ORD and KRK-YHM (each once a week) with 767's for the summer 2011 season.

If that's the case, then don't you think that LO would be adding to its current TATL routes from WAW since they're getting rid of KRK and RZE service? While LO's WAW-ORD/YYZ frequency remains the same compared to last summer, WAW-JFK/EWR is actually down six flights total. Do you think this could open the door for AA, DL, or the new UA to start flights to Poland from the New York area?

Interesting information, Filipair!
That'll be an unusual tail to catch at O'Hare this summer.
Wiki only lists 2 737-800 and one 757-200 under the Polish division's name, whereas Air Italy itself has the 767's (2 each 200ER and 300ER). I assume the parent company will be "loaning" the Polish division one of its a/c.

Anything more you can tell us of this arrangement? Days of operation? Start and end dates?

The article below from FlightGlobal, early March, indicates otherwise; that LO is looking elsewhere for growth:

"...LOT has said it is looking to add more destinations in Asia as part of a new strategy focusing on the east."

It is also mentioned that LOT's 787's are now scheduled for delivery starting in April 2012. These will replace the 767's now flying, including, I'm sure, those flying into ORD, although the article mistakingly omits Chicago from the list of destinations now served by their 767's.

I look forward to seeing LOT's 787's at ORD's T5 next year!

LOT can fill several ORD-Poland flights a day, but the yields are in the toilet.

ORDWAW isn't as big as people make it out to be.

I'll take a wild guess and say that Star Alliance is hurting LOT on the TATL routes. There's like a myriad of connections available now, in addition to the non-Star ones.
